2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4088776) - Error 0x80070002

I have been struggling with this issue for well over a month, It first started with the "2018-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4090913)". Now its update Tuesday and this months cumulative update (KB4088776) is doing the exact same thing.

I have tried all 5 of the steps provided by microsofts here:                            (More than once)

Finally, I have done a clean install of windows 10 three times now in the past couple of weeks, to no prevail. 

After each fresh install. the exact same issue.

I am running Windows 10 Pro Education, Version 1709, build 16299.15.

After each install it seems to update no problem, but seems to only be an issue once I reactivate my Windows 10 Pro Activation key.

I gave up weeks ago, and was hoping my problem would simply be solved by the latest update, but that is not the case.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Linda its come up now, ye to your previous comment, it sounds like an update did not properly install or corrupted i noticed a problem with microsoft network link, what i would do is run https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc this script first, unzip, and it will be a .bat file, right click it a list will come up and run as an administrator, then a cmd, black box will come up and reset the windows update agent, once done go into cortana, type cmd, it should show up in the list, again right click and run as administrator, in the cmd prompt type sfc /scannow (exactly) then it will do a file scan and fix errors, once done restart pc/laptop. then retry doing the updates again until this one fails to download, thats what happened with me, exactly as you described then retry the standalone installation again https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4088776, if fails again manually upgrade windows via media creation tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10, then after it finishes then redo the manual installation, i found my problem to be is that it wouldn't download, hope this helps let us know how you get on, good luck😊

    try upgrading windows with the media creation tool then redo updates or redo the update from here, https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4088776, before manually updating, run this https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc

    Hi Linda,

    If you're still getting a notification to install an installed update, it's possible that the installation did not complete or it got completed but Windows shows otherwise. As an initial troubleshooting step, we'd recommend that you check for available updates for your device.

    To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. Once done, check if the issue persists.

    Update...I keep on getting the same results....the update never finishes the installation.  This has been happening  for 2 months.  I even tried the Stand alone update and get an error message that this update is already installed.  It shows up as installed in my Control Panel > Programs > View Installed Updates, but not in the Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update.

    This is the message I get in the Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update:

    That "button" is Restart Now.....and when I do that, my PC restarts and comes back on with the message that the updates could not finish updating.  It keeps looping with the notifications, restart and failure to finish installing the update.

    My Microsoft products stopped working again so I was forced to reinstall Windows 10 Pro. KB4088776 is now successfully installed.

    I checked my control panel for installed updates....apparently KB4088776 is already installed (but there is no date of installation).  I am now wondering why I keep getting notifications to install this already installed update?  Also wondering why I can't find this installed update in my settings/Windows Updates.
