Error 0x80070bc2 when Windows 10 update trying to install KB4048955 for version 1709

Windows 10 home, new computer with CPU Intel 8700K working well, version 1709 installed.   

I noticed that windows update gives error 0x80070bc2 when trying to install 2017-11 Cumulative update for Windows Version 1709 for amd64-based systems KB4048955 (and before KB4043961) ... getting a sort of a loop as it requires a restart to finish installing but at any restart gives the same message and does not install.  

Tried various things such as sfc scan, dism, troubleshooting windows update, manual install etc.  Nothing works.  Other updates such as KB4048951 and KB4051613 installed correctly in the last few days.  Can someone help?

This seems to have worked for me:

  • Right-click on Windows key and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type the following commands in Command Prompt window. To execute them, press Enter after each one. 

SC config wuauserv start= auto

SC config bits start= auto

SC config cryptsvc start= auto

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto

  • Finally, restart your PC and try to install the update that was previously returning the 0x80070bc2 error.

    0x80246007 WU_E_DM_NOTDOWNLOADED The update has not been downloaded.

    (BING search for

        0x80246007 site:support.microsoft.com intitle:code

    )

    So, that's one you may be able to get more detail from WindowsUpdate.log   Generate a new one with PowerShell  Get-WindowsUpdateLog

    But I am finding that updates seem to be taking a different route using newer processes and services that involve other diagnostics so you may have to dig deeper to get the necessary clues about what is wrong.

    Windows 10.  Still an Adventure ("Twisty passages, all different.")

    Hello guys, i had the same error n° 0x80070bc2 when Windows 10 update try to install KB4103727 for version 1709, it's seemes that the computer get a sort of loop as it requires a restart to finish the installing...

    I have also another error n° 0x80246007 when Windows 10 update try to install KB4056892 for version 1709, at any restart gives the same message and does not install.

    Can someone help?

    setupdiag is the name of the new tool

    Looks like you could try that tool anyway.  Maybe it will give you some clues without having to do too much of your own analysis.

    Yeah ironic that update 1803 fixed the error for you since it's the first version of Windows 10 that comes with new tool that is supposed to give us a better idea of what caused the error in the first place LOL

    unfortunately I can't figure how to get 1803 without installing latest updates to my current install of Win10 which I can't due to repeated Error 0x80070bc2 so basically caught in a catch22 atm!

    I had to enable pause updates for 30 days since my ISP implemented data caps can't be having Windows download the same update over and over already 3x and fail!

    I'm guessing Microsoft will have another update by then that will fix this since that's the only thing that fixed this problem in the past.  running the windows update troubleshooter as recommended here didn't fix anything just said there was database corruption, went about fixed said corruption, tried installing update again still failed thus I disabled update like I said till next month ill try again. Besides updating to 1803 might do more harm than good from what I just read 1803 bricks pcs
