This seems to have worked for me:
- Right-click on Windows key and select Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type the following commands in Command Prompt window. To execute them, press Enter after each one.
SC config wuauserv start= auto
SC config bits start= auto
SC config cryptsvc start= auto
SC config trustedinstaller start= auto
- Finally, restart your PC and try to install the update that was previously returning the 0x80070bc2 error.
Despite being an administrator, this process results in "Access is Denied" after each entry stroke.
But note that the error occours after the system attemted to download and instal KB4058258.
The system chose to do this whilst my normal system clean up routine was running.
As a side comment - it really is outrageously arrogant of Microsoft to impose downloading of updates with no means of choosing when to do the dowload. That is the basic cause of the problem here. I want to be told when updates are available. BUT it is for me
to decide when to download them. It's MY computer and MY software. Microsoft have no business taking it over.
