Thanks! But I had found the files all right and had already copied them when I made the post. I'm just frustrated at having to do it over and over and over. (And to be clear, all of my frustration is aimed at Windows itself, not at you personally.) I didn't think "leaves my stuff where I put it" should have to be a feature I vigilantly check for in my next operating system, any more than I need to specify "please no insects" to the person making my burger.

2018-08-11T12:12:17+00:00 This has happened to me twice now on my laptop at work. A company owned laptop. It doesn't just remove things from the desktop, it "erased" ALL saved files in the standard documents, pictures, etc folders. The first time I was able to restore everything. This time I can't find the restore point i used just last month. Im the only one n my office this has happened to. Now, at least I know I'm not the only one dealing with this insanity.

2018-08-14T17:15:15+00:00 This just happened to a coworker. Turns out all his personal files were marked as Hidden. Try showing hidden files and see if they come back: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028316/windows-view-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-10
