linux updates are 100% voluntary and do not screw up your machine.  they also have other kernels you can use.  don't even compare windows to linux. it's not remotely the same thing.   windows consumes your computers resources making it almost unusable while it spends 30 to 60 mins doing updates.  updates on linux take 2 to 3 mins and you don't even know because it doesn't hog up all the resources.

again, they are not FORCED UPDATES like windows.  linux doesn't change your drivers.  windows will.  for ones that don't work.

you can uncheck updates all you want, microsoft will still install them.  mine was wiped clean by them and mine has had auto updates off for years.

I only use windows 1 or 2 times a year for an hour or so then it's booted back into linux.

I tried and tried and tried.. could not access any keys or files -- just had a black screen trying to access desktop files that were deleted by that miserable update.

    Sit down.

I had  to reset to factory defaults.  Lost everthing.. pictures, music, books, financial info -- everything.  Still in the process of recreating what I can remeber from 2015.  I have turned off automatic updates

Loathe Microsoft as this has happened to many and Microsoft not warning or taking any responsibility for this egregious "update".  HP hit as one of the worst (mine is HP) and HP also a no show for an suggesion or help.

Also own a cheap ASUS which was not affected by update.  In he future, I will not update any Windows until I research and holdout for backlash.

    I assume you tried recovery?

JenMazzonin explained EXACTLY what I have going on, with the exception that my “Recycle Bin” is on my desktop with nothing in it. I cannot access search functions or this PC, as the start button does nothing.

I canright click on the task bar and get to task manager and that is about it. From Task manager I can go to “Run New Task”, and them browse to see files, but that is it.

So if I wanted to “Run New Task” to help fix this issue, what would I run?

any help would be greatly appreciated.
