I feel you I had the same issue, but I found that if you uninstall the update it recovers all the missing files. This literally saved me cause I was so worried and upset at Windows. So just go into setting, updates and click uninstall latest update (something along those lines.) I hope this helps you and that you will be able to recover your assignments!

2019-09-20T12:29:51+00:00 Your files are still there...
You need to remove the hard drive and slave it to another computer to copy your files off the drive. Then you need to reformat the drive and re-install windows10. After doing that you can copy your files from the other computer back over to yours. Yes it is a pain in the **** but it is a way to save your files.

2019-09-20T07:36:33+00:00 Garbage.
All of my files have been deleted. Will be getting rid of Windows and switching to Apple. I shouldn't have to be worried that a stupid update is going to delete all of my assignments.

2019-09-19T23:21:06+00:00 Unfortunately, as far as I know, there seems no way to restore the lost files due to MS updates (although some claim it is stored in the Old file!?)-- Some may have a backup of their files either on external hard or on a cloud, but to restore all lost applications you have to have the full Image of your hard disk. So, I still think either Microsoft has to come with a crucial solution to address its automated Update problem (which acts more like a virus rather than a bug)-- Or you have to block the update altogether - I have already showed how to block it somewhere in this forum as precautionary step for future protection.
