Automated Windows 10 updates deleted all my documents and files

This happened to me as well and wiped out 3.5 years of a research resource library. Like others have said, this is totally unacceptable and has serious financial ramifications for users.

A simple notification that the update needs to happen and is not able to proceed until users have a chance to back up data, close programs and click to accept the update is minimal baseline best practice, in addition to being common sense.

By the time I was aware what was going on with my computer, my Windows.old files were deleted as well.

My question is if Microsoft keeps users .old contents on your web cloud from which we can restore lost files?

I expect and truly hope that the answer to this is affirmative.

I am in a state of shock. I was already using windows 10 and last night automated updates started without allowing me to stop them. This morning my computer is cleaned out with all thosevery important document deleted!!! Microsoft can do that??? How can I recover them ALL?????
