Windows 10.0.16299.19 upgrade failed and it gives the message: "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on theis compuiter, restart the installation." i tried the method in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-could-not-complete-the-installation-to/bf09c3c5-298b-459f-aed5-4f431b8398f5?auth=1 but it does not work. There is no cursor on the screen, there is no “local user and group” in Double click Computer Management (Local) -> System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users -> Double Click Administrator -> Uncheck Account is disabled -> OK this step

there is no response when i try oobe> msoobe

Please help me, thank you!

Here is the fix for "Windows could not complete the installation:

So I managed to get it started up. I turned the computer off and on 3 times to start advanced recovery. Choose advance options. I was about to restore windows (reinstall windows and removing all apps and programs by keep personal files). Select reinstall and keep personal files. And then on the next screeen hit cancel. So I hit cancel at the next prompt. I then selected start windows and it continued installation as normal without the error.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was about to reinstall windows, and this advice got my machine back and past the error. It did take quite a while to finish up the upgrade, but well worth the wait.

Thank you!!!. To those look my this solution it may take more than 3 Times before recovery options loads. Do not give up. This solution does work. Thanks again!

I am having this exact same problem, only I think I might have made it worse. I have a Sony Vaio VPCF121FD and am trying to update to Windows 10.0.16299.125. Here is what I have done so far:

I tried a reinstall from a USB and I kept getting the same error message

Msoobe didn't work for me- nothing would happen.

MMC doesn't let me access local users and I can't edit the users through the path it tells me (control panel, users)

I tried regedit to no avail, the auditmode values did not work.

I tried restarting in advanced recovery mode shutdown /r /o but this didn't boot up any differently and kept getting the same error.

I unfortunately do not have any system restore points, I used to but I'm not sure what happened and system restore automatic restore points got disabled

Tried all of these in both safe mode (with network and with cmd) and elevated command prompts, still nothing.

Now I am trying msconfig and restarted in diagnostics mode- did not get the error but I am pretty sure I am stuck in an endless loop, it has been about 20 minutes and all I see is the rotating dots.

I do have an NVIDIA GEFORCE graphics card and I have read this might cause issues with the latest build.

Please help. S.O.S. I've spent over 6 hours on this and I need to move on with my life.

I have only tried on a laptop. I think a desktop would also recognize a power interuption. Try it and let us know.
