Mystery app preventing Windows 10 shutdown after update.

Since a Windows 10 update a few weeks ago, when I go to shut down, it says it is closing and there is an app running  ------- but there is no app running   So I wait for it to close that nonexistent app, and after a few minutes, I am back to the computer being ready to work, not shutting down. When will a new update fix this?  Yesterday's update did not fix this. It is not a serious problem, but it is annoying to have to click "Shut down anyway" to really shut down.  What is this app that hides itself and won't quit?

I was trying to help but you have, apparently, solved your problem. Good to know.

Thanks PJF, but you've misunderstood my post ---- I have NOT "solved" the problem; I have merely found an explanation.  The "solution" has to be found by Microsoft, whose "update" caused the system to misinterpret a background process as an application  Until that happens, other background processes (besides SMS Listo or Brother printers) will continue to be misinterpreted as applications.

Good luck, ernest ------ I just wish the Micfosoft "developers" would work as hard as we do on finding fixes for the problems they have created.

Interestingly, after the last Windows 10 update (Nov2018) the "shutdown anyway" message failed to appear when I performed a normal shutdown.  However, after my laptop was shutdown and restarted, the same annoying message was still present.  So, what app might have been not started during the restart for the last update?

I've had the same update problem for at least 4 months and nothing seems to work.  I did run the update troubleshooter and that didn't help.  I read someone said suck it up, seriously?  Because of the unknown program hanging I can not download and programs that use .msi  , it says can not install program as there is a program all ready waiting for install.

    Please Microsoft find a solution.
