How to disable the Read Aloud feature?

I called the assistive device help desk and was told that there is an "X" in the top corner when this features is triggered.  X it out and read aloud is suppose to stop.  It worked once for me.  Has not happened in a while.

Brian submitted his request 1-1/2 years ago. Is it true you still have no solution for turning off "read aloud". Can you at least stop it while it's reading aloud?

Over 600 people have asked this question, and over 14,000 have viewed it. Why hasn’t Microsoft done anything about it? It should be obvious to you by now that customers want to disable this feature permanently. Instead of making excuses, make it happen.

• Which Windows build version is running on your device? Type winver in the search box and press Enter to help you identify the build.
• When does the notification or prompt pops up?
• Can you post a screenshot of the pop-up to better identify the issue.

Meanwhile, lets narrow down the issue by ensuring that the Narrator is disabled. To do this, follow the steps provided on this support article and check if the issue persists.

Can you help with disabling the read-aloud pop.

It happens most when I am in gmail on the Internet edge browser, and it happens about 9-10 times a day..really annoying.

Version 1803 build 17134-648.  This most often occurs while in AOL mail or while in Chat with a vendor.  I have not noticed it while in WORD.  What happens is that suddenly there are yellow and blue highlighting as the narrator scrolls through the text.  You can't stop it.  I tried X out in the top right corner once since I learned about it and it worked.  But, there is a significant volume of people on line who apparently have not heard about this resolution.  I can't figure out how to show you a screen shot.  Yes, Narrator is off.
