How to disable the Read Aloud feature?

Read aloud is a great concept from Microsoft with INCOMPLETE implementation.  It needs a way to have it PERMANENTLY disabled if the user sees no use for it.  The reason is that REGARDLESS which version of Windows 10 you have it pops up in a box any time you miss click your mouse.  [ right click (for right handed people) or opposite for left landed people with mouse reversed.]  I have 2 laptops and 2 desktops on W10.  Most are 16299.248.  problem has been here since I cant remember when on all of them. Yes Narrator is OFF.

Try it right now.  Push both halves of your mouse button - this simulates missing the desired half with your thumb for example.  Most times a box pops up often with the READ ALOUD item preselected or close to selected.  Make another false move with your hand or just have your thumb too close to your track pad or your finger too close to your regular mouse button and bingo bango make a wrong jiggle or static electricity pop and Mr Microsoft is reading your stuff and causing endless distress .  If I had poor eyesight with time to listen to the slow speaking dude this would be an awesome feature.

Seeing this happens numerous times in an hour on a bad day, it is easily one of the top 3 MOST annoying Windows 10 features.  The other one is also mouse/track pad related - its whatever makes the windows 10 desktop pop up with all the open windows- again some accidental mouse motion or undocumented Microsoft short cut I have yet to figure out. I will save the 3rd most annoying W10 feature for another time.

So again - how do we enter Microsoft Edge settings and turn off Read Aloud forever?

We appreciate the comprehensive response. If Narrator is disabled and still the Read Aloud prompt still pops-up, we suggest that you disable any reading feature from the ***Ease of Access Center.***To do this, follow the steps below:

1. Type Control Panel in the search box and press Enter.
2. In the Control Panel screen, select Small icons from the View by: drop-down list.

Note: View by: is located on the upper right side of the screen. 3. Select Ease of Access Center. 4. Under Make your computer easier to use section, uncheck the following boxes:

Always read this section aloud

Always scan this section 5. Once you're done, exit the Control Panel screen and check if the issue persists.

Alternatively, if you're using a mouse pad, access the mouse pad option and disable the feature that allows right-click when mouse pad is double tapped. Refer to the device manufacturer or support site on how to disable this feature.

Update us with the result of the manual configuration.

I have started getting the exact same problem. Narrator is definitely turned off and always has been - now every possible option under the Narrator is also turned off. I've restarted the computer but it still pops up with 'Read aloud'. The dang thing takes control and reads out any text, and I can't work out how to get control back so I can put the cursor where I want it.

The problem started about 10 days ago, before that I hadn't had an issue. It's happening most when I'm trying to key text into facebook. It is incredibly irritating. I'll be typing in text quite happily and all of a sudden, without using my mouse, it's in Read Aloud mode. I have no idea what I'm accidentally doing that makes it go into that mode and once it's going I have no idea how to stop him speaking.

When the read aloud pops up, someone suggested pressing the Esc key when you first see the pop-up, that works for me for now...not sure how to make it not pop-up to start with--not yet, anyway!
