This fixed my sound. Thanks. What's the difference between the RealTek and the generic High Definition Audio Device? Will I need to eventually reinstall the RealTek?
RealTek audio driver on windows 10 1709 doesn't work anymore
I recently upgraded my Dell XPS 9333 laptop from windows 10 1703 to 1709. Consequence: the sound device in the system tray is marked with a red cross. The RealTek audio doesn't work anymore.
Before the windows upgrade my RealTek audio driver was the most recent version. Removing and installing the RealTek audio driver doesn't solve the problem.
How can the problem be solved?

The device apear as working. I installed the last driver from Realtek.
then :
L'appareil HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_18492892&REV_1003\4&15c79f30&0&0001 n’a pas été migré à cause d'une correspondance partielle ou ambiguë.

The driver seems to be up and running.

2019-03-22T15:46:54+00:00 I just did a big fluff around with Realtek and Windows . I uninstalled all sound drivers, software and hardware. I went into Program files...Realtek...audio...HDA...right click in there and properties. Locate 'system' and set privileges to 'deny' This will stop windows from updating Realtek devices as I have found that Realtek kinda sucks with Windows
Dell laptop, Inspiration
Restarted system and all worked
Some may have to select device manager and install audio inputs and outputs. Simple but I used Microsoft High Definition Audio as opposed to Realtek. I believe this is a Realtek problem and not Windows. Microsoft states the driver for Realtek is not signed. idk. I'm a nobody but it worked for me.

2019-03-22T15:55:41+00:00 some of the drivers on windows update do not seem to work right with some chipsets. Not sure why but there may be some issues with the WDM changes with newer versions of Windows? WDM has been static for a long time and usually it's not a problem.
drivers use device id to select the right components so this is why i suggest the motherboard/machine vendor first for drivers
