Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    Its not right this keeps happening I have a brand new computer and since this last stupid update microsoft did now has my computer messing up battery dies faster now, bluetooth tripping in and out now getting clipping and this wasnt happening till your stupid update.  I went to microsoft tech support and they were useless I hate microsoft so much as much as i do apple and google its a monopoly.  Microsoft updates just make things worse stop with your stupid **** updates an let people live a tiny piece of life without stress.

    Im soon just gonna go back to win 7 and work with linux

    i keep cutting off updates it will pop back on but i keep turning it off not taking any chances.Micosoft is the worse system out there windows 7 was great windows 10 sucks

    my computer died, got so many error messages after restart, it also wiped my 32/files or dills right out!  So I heard vista 7 and windows 8 are the ones that got hit hard, a big mess up on the update.

    I just bought a new all in one, will be here this next week,  windows 10 only on it. Money doesn't grow on trees guys.  be careful on the updates, check them really well before they hit our computers.

    My computer just had an update and the symptoms are the same as the guys here. So, I don't need to explain. 

    I really wist microsoft could give us the ability to chose to install or not updates. And I think that this is a desire of a lot of MS users. I'm running the  Windows Update troubleshooter. Let's see what happens.

    My computer did a big time crash, I bought a new one, that they don't have or want java on due to hacking ease, no windows movie maker...and so on. now it's called create. my fraps no longer works due to the type of files. Their working on it but will be awhile.

    I tried all that on the fixes for the tower, nope. other...32.files just disappeared, and last the blue screen with the unhappy smiley face. was a gamming tower.

    and Minecraft java, said it couldn't open due to 32, files it part runs on were gone. Going to take it in and see, free diagnostic. it maybe that the computer itself went..so can't really blame the last update yet. 

    But with my new one, all in one...started from scratch,  didn't want to pull any old into it. lot of programs are out of date for the full on windows 10. can run windows beta 10 Minecraft, but to no avail  no matter how I download and remove and start over does the java one I had work...Like lag city and walking through slush.

    yeah, I miss my movie maker...Sorry I tried it all to fix my other one...will find out what happened this next week. 

    They now offer a bit to much junk or to buy...
