Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    Every update wrecks something else. Now Video Cards are not working any more. Conflict with drivers.

    Backup does not work. Driver problem. I am so annoyed with the way Microsoft wrecks everything.

    Keep it up and I will go back to 8 until someone with more brain develops a better operating system.

    You have not been helpful. This forum is useless. 

    What have you done to correct the following problems:

    Seagate Memeo constant backup not working any more.

    AMD HD5450 Video card gets shut off by system

    Linksys Wi-Fi gets shut off constantly.

    Picture takes days to load the first picture and some of the other APS are not much better.

    The operating system which was supposed to load fast, takes longer now than Windows 7.

    Updates take forever and no indication what the system is doing. Just a black screen.

    You want more: read you own forum. Windows 10 has been a disaster.

    It wiped out my hard drive windows 10 is crapp. I dont like apple but am cosidering it next time i buy a computer or phone

    in all honesty I'm seriously debating to make the jump to a linux build - it'll be a huge hassle but with windows 10 and windows updates being this absolute steamy hot garbo water I find myself more and more compelled to get the heck off of a windows OS

    • my task manager and other files such as fences have all started to malfunction and disassociate themselves with this last update - keep getting task manager isn't associated with any devices..... uhm okay how the heck does that even work other than microsoft screwing the pooch big time.

    Hi Sam,

    There are a lot of reasons as to why this would happen. A conflict with hardware, (doesn't support the latest version of Windows), outdated drivers, or even software conflict (third party antivirus programs, manufacturer's pre-installed programs, etc.) are just a few of them.

    Since bugs are inevitable, what you can do is to create a back up. This will assure that you will always have something to go back to in case things went south. Here's an articlefor your reference.

    You may also run the Windows Update troubleshooter to fix system file corruption that causes you to experience issues after installing an update.

    I didn't get a chance to back up my files when the update was installed without my knowledge or ok
