Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    Hi Sam,

    There are a lot of reasons as to why this would happen. A conflict with hardware, (doesn't support the latest version of Windows), outdated drivers, or even software conflict (third party antivirus programs, manufacturer's pre-installed programs, etc.) are just a few of them.

    Since bugs are inevitable, what you can do is to create a back up. This will assure that you will always have something to go back to in case things went south. Here's an articlefor your reference.

    You may also run the Windows Update troubleshooter to fix system file corruption that causes you to experience issues after installing an update.

    No it messed my computer up too it lags my mouse out in game and i cant fix it cant trun off update or gay shell i dont want that crap so im thinking of going back to old software like xp pro i like windows 10 but i dont like how it forces stuff onto your unit

    My Lenovo Windows 10 worked fine till Microsoft updated it now i cant even update my own website without crashing. I have blogged crap useless MS on Twitter - they have no **** rights to ,ess up someones computer.  I think a worldwide blog is needed

    The same reasons why you are having the issue, as pointed out by John Ado, applies to you. We suggest that you also perform Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix your concern. We also recommend that you check Back up and restore your files In Windows 10. This will enable you to go to a restore point where you can go back to your previous files and settings.

    mine said i had an update and i clicked and went to teach a class.  came back and the damn windows 10 was installed and all my work docs and excel sheets are disabled and i cannot use them...they told me to go to the recovery and then click back to 8.1....nice, except mine does not have this feature.  so now I have to go to the store, buy a backup device and conveniently microsoft will allow me to PURCHASE 8.1 that i had already...even though their marketing the product over a year ago said all my apps would work
