Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    Yes, Microsoft screws up your system with their updates.  Expect them to this this at least every three months, so never save anything in your computer because you will have to re-install it in 3 months or so.  restore points can only save you so much until your system becomes unstable.  I usually don't mind doing this, I am only writing here because I just reinstalled my OS 4 days ago and spent a lot of time doing it, now with one update damn unstable again and it's finals week, gggrrrr.  I have accepted it mostly for Microsoft attempt to make people who is not knowledgeable about computers to keep buying one because they thinks their computer is broken just like your cell phone seems to need reboot when your contract was up, so as long as you know about computers you are fine like me, I have over half a dozen computer from 20 years old to somewhat new still running at top shape even the old ones running faster than other peoples new computer, but with expectation of having to reinstall Windows 10 every so often.

    My computer said restore was not installed or disabled! It showed like 15 of each app *3. And all system files .. I saw the word partition inthe 20+ danger alerts....15 min. Is all it took.   How can they get away with this.

    Very recently, my Toshiba Satellite P755 had died due to the death of NVIDIA GT 500 Series and the monitor. I had just wanted to share this little bit of feedback. Sorry that I had to share this laptop breaking news. :(

    The exact same thing happened to my lenovo ThinkPad. Start-up takes way too long now and and when I click on some icons it won’t even open the programs. Everything on my laptop was working without any issues until the Microsoft update occurred. I’m seriously considering switching to a Mac. I’m not a computer expert and don’t have the time to try and figure this out.  

    If you are wanting to quit Windows, go ahead, but you would be leaving behind your Fire Red Team, Emerald Green Team and Sapphire Blue Team of Graphics Cards. You would also be leaving behind the Xbox One Built in Platform, which would be sad to leave behind ABZU and RIME. Unless you are wanting to buy Xbox One X for Xbox Games. You would be leaving behind the easy Start Up Menu and you would have iOS Icons from Apple. Each system will have its own bloatware

    defaultly installed onto their laptops. You could not

    even get rid of the bloatware on ths iOS Mac, unless you would want to compromise your security system and void the Apple laptop warranty which is considered very risky. I would personally not want to do that. It would be a bummer that an Mac would not have the gaming capabilities, because the processor is I7 AMD at low rate 2017 Version. I stick with Windows or some good storage laptop with Solid States or Solid State Sticks 250GB or More. Graphine Battery or 5 Hours. 

    I can go with Google, but the problems are the Xbox One not being there and the Google Drive not being secured, since everyone has access to it.

    But after researching, Google has small GB space.
