Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

My son's $$$$$ Lenevo Legion computer which we bought only two months ago did the last Windows 10 auto update in early November.  Rendered his computer useless.  Goes into "repair" mode, then fails.  Set up doesn't work. We did every conceivable thing we could, including resetting using the pin holes on teh side of the computer.  Can't even go back to a system restore point.  Tried to re-install Windows 10 but it says it can't do it until the current system is uninstalled but we can't even get to it.  Thankfully, Lenovo has wonderful tech support and they're sending us a flash drive to restore the computer to factory defaults.  We are hating Microsoft right now.  A lot.

My Win7 was working great till I activated windows update i let it restart then everything got f'd I got the grub rescue out of nowhere did not know what to do i had to reinstall windows and format all of my hard drives havent activated update since and it works just fine i aint buying Win10 stop forcing this crap down out throats...

I FOUND A FIX.  I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A MAC!

I have the same problem with them just this morning you supposed to update something with the Intel and it said it was and it said it had a problem and set the restore automatically when it came back on I have nothing but a black screen with a line through it and that just happened today 7-5-18

I feel your pain.  I can't even get to the restore points that I had created.  This is the exact thing that is happening to me.  I am going to have to start over with Windows 7.
