Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    So over the whole computer thing!  They're supposed to make things simpler, and all they do is rob me of time, peace of mind, and money.  I don't do anything on here but look at videos and e-mails and the *&)&^^ thing tries to download a windows update, and that's it- done- no more mircrosoft!  Nothing works.  You can't get an english speaking person to help you.  They're always looking for more money to fix the problem. Hope they all burn in hell, every last person responsible for this bu**s*it scam they're running- constantly!

    this issue is fixed; two outstanding technicians from Microsoft did it; I no longer have this problem; now my problem is with AT&T who apparently cannot handle their merger with Yahoo... of course people from Guatemala, who barely speak English cannot do much can they? I feel they went from Guatemala to guatepeor!

    this issue is fixed; two outstanding technicians from Microsoft did it; I no longer have this problem; now my problem is with AT&T who apparently cannot handle their merger with Yahoo... of course people from Guatemala, who barely speak English cannot do much can they?     I took mine to a repair center where they installed new software they said that's all they have been doing since the update

    You can never get MS help going this route.  You will either get super complicated instructions from a show-off nerd or directions to menus that don't contain what you're supposed to find there,  Don't waste your time with their hopeless Cutsie chat assistant. I've learned after a dozen tries that help resource is another fraud.  You can try contacting Microsoft phone support (long wait, don't really understand your issue) or go to an outside source who will log on with you remotely--trouble is they can't really fix things.  I have had HelloTech on contrfact for years and they have been helpful but with Windows they have met their match, and my last two calls for help with them were a disappointment.  Microsoft has lost control of their own criss-crossing jumble of pafts that do not work smoothly and they know there is nowhere for us to go.  After decades with Windows I am going to free myself from Microsoft and Google and buy a Mac.  Not perfect either but you will not see this Microsoft Module Madness anymore.
