Windows update messed up my computer

I saw this thing in the notification center that said something about a windows update. I can't remember exactly what it said or looked like. But I clicked on it and let it update and do it's thing.  

Then when it was done. I set the computer to restart and update. When it updated and restarted I started to have problems like the start menu refused to come up. And I could not start task manager. Task manager would just get a timeout error after a bit of waiting. I could not do anything from the taskbar except open file explorer. I tried waiting for 20mins and that didn't work. So I tried restarting a couple of times and that did not work.

Then I tried holding the shift key and restarting from the log in menu to try resetting it with a restore point and there was no restore points? I know I made restore points before the troubles started to occur?

So the thing that fixed it was this option to revert to a previous version of windows. 

In that menu that I got up from holding the shift key at windows login and restarting the computer. 

This is a brand new computer I bought from Costco. 

I would really like feedback from you. And want to know what you think? 

Is it happening to a lot of other people? Or just me so far? 

I really hope you can give me a good answer that would make me feel better about the whole thing!

I kinda freaked out and thought... what if I got a lemon!  :)

    I really wish you people would try just once to help out. Your answers are vague at best, unhelpful. And of course, never different. You have the same answers for every problem, if the available HELP info doesn't work ball up your data and start over. Well ****, I've done that so manyt times the original data is corrupted to  the point it's just as useless as you are. Thank sooooo very much.

    It is a pity that Microsoft produce an update that causes problems like this. It took me several hours which is my valuable time to fix the problem. 

    Having to take your computer to a repair centre at your cost is not on, the information was on the Microsoft site but I found it in a roundabout way which was time consuming. It involved using the Microsoft Update Trouble Shooter and installing a previous update.

     I did consider in the face options such as Recovery and Repair of the operating system but these are often drastic measures and involve loosing information unless you have it backed up. All valuable time consuming exercises.

    That was an ongoing problem with the updates the new software has to be reinstalled

    I took mine to a repair center where they installed new software they said that's all they have been doing since the update

    Hi Kamangak,

    Instead of reformatting, I recommend that you perform a custom install. Custom installation is similar to clean install but with multiple options including the preserving of files. To know more information regarding custom installation, kindly refer to the forum article entitled "How to: Perform a Custom Installation of Windows".
