Amazon Device randomly showing up on Network.

Original question:

I've got a random Amazon KFAUWI device showing up on my network as a device beside my driver for my router. Can anyone help? I am sure it is not a device in my house, as everything is set to something we've done or one of our names. Can anyone tell me if i'm stupid or if this is a general happening?

    I have never used WPS it's a security risk and has been disabled on my network since day 1, furthermore I am using corporate firewalling and ethernet on all workstations other than echo, wifi is disabled on these workstations, not using a cheap router ...this issue is related to Amazon devices, spacifically the echo, all other workstations function fine

    Except we don't have any Amazon device. All devices we do have are accounted for. Whatever is popping up isn't ours. The only thing that works is to not broadcast (hide the network).

    My reply was to Steve-D-M ...Michael, sounds like a security issue to me, or possibly a cellphone changing names, isolate it by tracking the mac address

    That is very odd.  I have never seen this once I turned off and disabled WPS on all WiFi routers and "Windows Connect Now - Config Registrar" service on all Windows 8/10 PC's. I assume you tried rebooting routers and PC's after turning things off/disabling.

    I have seen two weird cases:

    • A WiFi router that had WPS but no option to turn it off (I do not remember the make/model).  I just replaced the router.
    • I missed one Windows 10 PC and because they were Home grouped together the phantom was showing up on the other PC's as well.

    Sorry I could not be of more help.  I still believe the phantom's are annoying but harmless.
