Windows 10 1709 freeze randomly

I'd recommend going back to 1703, even if your system files don't have it I'm sure you can do so via mircosoft downloads. I've delayed mine to upgrade for 365 days that was months ago and I've not had a single crash since. Every time I've tried to upgrade to 1709 I freeze within a few days, then freeze with increasing frequency, until my system is completely unusable.

I am hoping to be able to skip version 1709 entirely and by the time I need to upgrade I can do whatever major version is next, which I'd hope doesn't have the issue (though it may have other issues).

Actually, I already did that once.

When Fall Creators Update appeared, I upgraded, and the freezes started.

I was actually thinking it had to do with something with old installation plus new installation thing.

Turns out I rolled back to 1703 and it was solid again. But many things were not working anymore.

FLAC and MP3 thumbnails not working. Folder icons having black background.

I already had problems like this in 1703, and because it became really annoying, I thought going totally clean w/ 1709. 

It turns out this build has this bug, even with all up-to-date patches and updates applied.

Must be something related to the GPU or AMD processor (FX 8320-E) here.

This is a AMD white-box GA-990XA-UD3 with 8GB RAM with the processor above and a GT630 GPU.

I have a Lenovo notebook which had no problems at all with 1709.

So it could be very well the case of being "Fast Start Up" issue.

I run a FX8320 as well, I very much doubt its GPU related as its a system freeze not a graphics display error. I've noticed a lot of FX series users in this thread having the issue so its likely something going on there.

At some point this year I'm switching to a Ryzen system so I'll be interested to see if this issue persits when I finally swap things over, but until then I'm not touching it.

I still haven't had a single lock on my workstation after disabling Fast Start Up.

I came to believe it's not related to FX or GPU.

I checked my Lenovo laptop and the Fast Start Up was DISABLED, then I remembered IT WAS REALLY LOCKING UP AS WELL, but differently. On this laptop, it wouldn't return from a system suspend or system video lock. Then I disabled it and it never happened again.

On the desktop, it's different. The video just freezes.

Yeah, definitely a Fast Start Up issue. Second day without one single CRASH.

Just would like to protest to Microsoft against the Brazilian branch over here, and local VARs. 

I had a VAR in my job that wanted to fraud a BIDDING to his company, and he is a MS Value Added Reseller.

Another thing is that these people over here, don't let you resell the software legally over the ebay-like sites.

If you legally put your perpetual licence for ONE resale as stipulated in the contract, VARs come and lock your sale.

Because of these people, I really hate this company.

And if you can't delay the upgrade, there is always the option of (after a fresh downgrade and before it attempts to automatically download 1709) of setting your Internet Connection to 'metered' under Internet Settings. Someone suggested that to me and it's helped a lot. I've been manually using the Windows Update Catalog to download any important or necessary updates to 1703. I do get a popup every day about downloading the latest Window 10 upgrade but I just press remind me later. It's a lot less of a hassle than putting up with it automatically upgrading and reminding me to install, and installing to see if it'll work just to face another freeze. 

I just hope this issue is fixed by the next creators' update. I have no clue what it could be. I've been back  on 1703 for about two months, no freezes, no problems at all.
