Windows 10 1709 freeze randomly

I installed 1803. While watching. For 1709, only disable fast start. For version 1803 we'll see ...

Manually checked for updates yesterday evening and was offered build 1803 aka redstone 4.

Decided to go for it (couldn't resist). Everything went smooth as butter and 1803 is now running and working well.

I'm one of the AMD FX group that turned off Fast Startup - but I'm not brave enough to turn it back on now that 1803 is here.

This is partly because I have an SSD so it starts very fast anyway, and partly because I don't want to take the risk of freezing and possibly getting corrupted data. This is my main work production machine so I'm not keen on taking unnecessary risks just for the research.

Is anyone brave enough to try it out and report back? - maybe someone with a test machine?

I can confirm that if you turn off "Fast Start Up", this particular issue stops.

This is related to the Power Management in the system that covers this specific feature of "Fast Start Up". 

Looks like it won't be fixed in further 1709 updates. 

The solution is to turn off this feature, or lock and stick with Creators Update build.

It is unknown to me that this will affect April 2018 Update which I am sure it will affect.

Windows "as a service" is becoming the new Linux 'round town.

These two major upgrades a year bring no stability for those who want to work seriously and need a working system throughout an entire year or more.

Hell, Satya. Do something, man. Split Windows in at least two branches. "Stable" and "Adventurous Builds".

Kind of like the Ubuntu LTS 5 year thing. It will be a lot easier on us. Please.

I'd recommend going back to 1703, even if your system files don't have it I'm sure you can do so via mircosoft downloads. I've delayed mine to upgrade for 365 days that was months ago and I've not had a single crash since. Every time I've tried to upgrade to 1709 I freeze within a few days, then freeze with increasing frequency, until my system is completely unusable.

I am hoping to be able to skip version 1709 entirely and by the time I need to upgrade I can do whatever major version is next, which I'd hope doesn't have the issue (though it may have other issues).

And if you can't delay the upgrade, there is always the option of (after a fresh downgrade and before it attempts to automatically download 1709) of setting your Internet Connection to 'metered' under Internet Settings. Someone suggested that to me and it's helped a lot. I've been manually using the Windows Update Catalog to download any important or necessary updates to 1703. I do get a popup every day about downloading the latest Window 10 upgrade but I just press remind me later. It's a lot less of a hassle than putting up with it automatically upgrading and reminding me to install, and installing to see if it'll work just to face another freeze. 

I just hope this issue is fixed by the next creators' update. I have no clue what it could be. I've been back  on 1703 for about two months, no freezes, no problems at all.

I still haven't had a single lock on my workstation after disabling Fast Start Up.

I came to believe it's not related to FX or GPU.

I checked my Lenovo laptop and the Fast Start Up was DISABLED, then I remembered IT WAS REALLY LOCKING UP AS WELL, but differently. On this laptop, it wouldn't return from a system suspend or system video lock. Then I disabled it and it never happened again.

On the desktop, it's different. The video just freezes.

Yeah, definitely a Fast Start Up issue. Second day without one single CRASH.

Just would like to protest to Microsoft against the Brazilian branch over here, and local VARs. 

I had a VAR in my job that wanted to fraud a BIDDING to his company, and he is a MS Value Added Reseller.

Another thing is that these people over here, don't let you resell the software legally over the ebay-like sites.

If you legally put your perpetual licence for ONE resale as stipulated in the contract, VARs come and lock your sale.

Because of these people, I really hate this company.
