How to fix Error Code 80248015 when trying to access windows updates

Tried to be sure of correct working 2/3 times yesterday ... all is well ... just tried again this a.m. ... can update Defender ( now faster than before ) and W update also working .... in both cases auto updates received, installed and showing in Updates.

Had no Error code, but was warned by german site ComputerBild ( Windows 7 update blocked ) on 05-12-2017, then tried to start WU: WU didn't even run and I had to abort it in task manager. Date back to 02-12-2017, set to manual WU, unchecked "updates fore other MS products", tried again, and then WU worked, got updates released even after 02-12-2017, with the fixed authcab.cab file, but check box for other MS products was lost. Set microsoft.com in IE compatibility tools, went to borncity.com.... as above, and re-installad MS Silverlight albeit I had the last version installed in June 2017. Very strangely, Silverlight size was over 700 MB before, and now 50,7 MB in installed programs (buggy installation ?). Lost check boxes return in WU and all works fine.
Was not aware of the need of MS Silverlight for WU and MSUpdate running trouble-free.
Wonder what happened without these manual fixes, why that mess ?

To avoid a mistake: dates are December 2 and 5, 2017, European format.
Silverlight is not involved in the MS Update feature, but it turns on MS checking (compared to just Windows) via its installer.
You can enable MS Update checking via a VBS script per the steps at https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/danbuche/2010/01/06/enabling-and-disabling-microsoft-update-in-windows-7-via-script/ if you don't want to add Silverlight or need to do it a lot (like on clean installs).

Similar here, but I did not even power off.
In Change Settings select "Never Check for Updates".
Click OK.
Go back to Change Settings and select "Install updates Automatically".
Verify other setting are all as required, including Microsoft Update.
Click OK.
Bingo!
