This worked for me and my users. I created a batch file.

    net stop wuauserv

    ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old

    net start wuauserv

    exit

    Then run windows patches.

Is there a fix that can be automatically deployed by IT administrators? For example an MSI or batch file or something?

Can't really go round manually to 1200+ PCs and reset the time back to the 3rd December...

Below is the fix I tried and lost the "updates for other MS Products" check box. Anyone know how to get it back - simply  - without Silverlight install ??

    Regards.

    Hi

Had no Error code, but was warned by german site ComputerBild  ( Windows 7 update blocked )  on 05-12-2017, then tried to start WU: WU didn't even run and I had to abort it in task manager. Date back to 02-12-2017, set to manual WU, unchecked "updates fore other MS products", tried again, and then WU worked, got updates released even after 02-12-2017, with the fixed authcab.cab file, but check box for other MS products was lost. Set microsoft.com in IE compatibility tools, went to borncity.com.... as above, and re-installad MS Silverlight albeit I had the last version installed in June 2017. Very strangely, Silverlight size was over 700 MB before, and now 50,7 MB in installed programs (buggy installation ?). Lost check boxes return in WU and all works fine.

Was not aware of the need of MS Silverlight for WU and MSUpdate running trouble-free.

Wonder what happened without these manual fixes, why that mess ?

    Thanks for your help.

I finally was able to register my laptop with Dell and then updates worked fine.

I tried a couple of fixes including running the Troubleshoot Problems from the right click of the Network Icon and doing a System Restore to the 2nd to the last update to no avail.

Did the registration fix the problem?  Who knows, however I was not able to register for several attempts prior to the 80248015 error.  The registration error I was getting was that all the fields were not complete, but they were.  The field in question was the one asking if use was business or personal.  The use is actually business, but as I was switching back & forth between the 2, it finally accepted personal.  I immediately went to the update page and successfully installed about 6 updates, shut down the laptop, restarted and updates continue to work.

Checking for Updates in the settings are set to Never as this laptop needs to RDC access a remote network.
