Error Code 80248015

Microsoft, attention please! Error codes unable to fix at this end. All has failed and not updating at all. Update error not fixed 0X80070005(2017-12-04-T-05_08_01P), also code 80248015. Help is needed for Windows 7. Don't leave us hanging please. Please respond.  KO

Something strange is happening here, now.

I did NOT disable the option to check for other ms products, but I went to check and when Windows update let me reach the options screen ( was very slow to load etc ), that screen is now identical to the one you get when you disable that option

A simple workaround so far (until MS fixes the expire date) is to uncheck the option to update other Microsoft products - as mentioned within the blog post. 

Finally, Thank you GBorn for a workaround that actually works on my Win7 Pro  32 bit computer. I unchecked the option to update other Microsoft products and now Windows Update DOES check for Windows updates. I also was successful in updating Microsoft Security  Essentials Manually through the MSE program itself.

Judging by the large number of users seeing this problem, I would conclude it is a Microsoft problem at their end. Using the workaround should allow us to get the Fix when it actually occurs.

Any word on when Microsoft will be sending out a fix?

I unchecked the box indicated in Born's blog

WU checked but didn't find any new ones. So I went back to the WU settings screen with the intention to re-check the box I'd unchecked. BUT, it's not there any more! How do I get that option back again...??

That's a known issue. I've added a note to my article and linked to some blog posts to fix this issue. But this isn't helpful now, because: If you re-enable both missing checkboxes, you are back at error 0x80248015.

MS has to fix that mess  (won't go into the detail, but a file authorization.xml need to be updated). I've written a post here in MS Answers forum about that issue - hope a forum moderator forwards it to the product group.

I wanted to re-check that box so I'd be prepared for whenever MS gets around to fixing their latest WU mess, but didn't know about this hidden bug. And my German is very rusty so I didn't even want to try to follow your instructions.

But, I found a very simple way to fix the problem with the missing update options on the WU settings screen.  I uninstalled MS Silverlight and immediately reinstalled it, which took less than ~5 min, in total. At the end of the SL install there's an options box for getting updates.  I checked that box and the missing update options immediately reappeared on the WU settings screen. Fixed!

I wish MS would get their act together. I'm tired of wasting my time dealing with their mess d'jour..!
