• Ballmer is involved in projects such as USAFacts, Los Angeles clippers & the Ballmer group, but also is a loyal Microsoft shareholder & as past leaders may have (or may have not) an important opinion, the man still expresses his views in discussions with great ratings //
• a big - for Ballmer, because the Los Angeles Clippers does not have an app in the Microsoft store, although their city rivals still have one //
• as in F1 is better to have more engine manufacturers & teams, so in the smartphone market is better to have more competition, more incentives for innovation //

I think you simple forget how many complains are out there even with android upgrades. I left android after one upgrade killed my Sony Xperia Z phone. My phone was melting some times, WiFi drops, dark UI I liked was gone.

Why people change there phones after one or two years, and often from one OEM to other? No or broken updates lack of support. android also often sucks even with over 80% market share.

There is no real boundary between devices any more, I use one of my device on the desk to talk and video chat, and my second device to browse the net and my third to watch video. And I use Windows on each device. I do not have to think how to do something, because they are almost the same on each device.

So if MS drops W10 mobile than they need to continue with W10 on arm or W10 core or W10 S. For me it is not really relevant. Giving up on device >A< will crus MS market on device >B<.

Windows is currently on desktops because you can install on every peace of hardware. Why is >phone< so much different? Phones are computers in our packets with arm cpu and some 3G, 4G, gsm modems.

Sorry, but as of right now there are plenty of distinctions between the OS variants on varying devices and the app flavors that run on the devices.

Years ago I lost a job because I could not get my boss to understand that the program he was sent from HQ would not run on his PC/AT (80286 processor) because it was written for PC/XT (8088 processor). Showing him the assembler subroutines in the BASIC code probably came across as my attempt to create blue smoke, but the facts were the facts no matter how unpalatable.

Efficient code has to take into account the CPU intended to run it and broken apps and other issues resulting from upgrades are another indication of the difficulty of writing such code. MS view of the future seems to focus on a core OS with greater interoperability across future devices with future CPU architecture. There is nothing I know of in industry review that suggests that our Lumia phones are headed for an updated and smoother future as they are essentially aging devices.
