++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

    You have to look it different: you won't select UWP if it isn't applicable for phones. So it is crucial to have phones, tablets, always connected device, on the UWP selection, even Linux and Ndroid not just Windows PC!

    UWP is applicable for Windows 10, Windows 10 Mobile, Xbox One, IoT, Surface Hub, Mixed Reality and HoloLens. Losing W10M is hardly going to be a dealbreaker for any developer given the shrinking user base.

    Yes, indeed - and another thing:

    This all started as a discussion of the future of Lumia cell phones and, I suppose, the reasonable relationship to WIN10 mobile. We all have to admit that WIN10 mobile is essentially dead based on everything MS has said.

    The UWP question has its own issues lurking in the background related to the future of the OS itself. Although the rumored "Andromeda" path has gone dormant, something along those lines is bound to be out there in the bowels of Redmond and whether or not the current UWP fits into its requirements will be a major factor in UWP longevity in the future.

    As of late 2017, the portable device linked to Andromeda had a minimum estimated USD $1,000 price tag which, as Apple has discovered with its recent releases, is just a bit too steep for the average person they hoped to interest in a purchase. For myself, I can get both last year's (as it were) iPad and iPhone that will sync wonderfully and offer broad flexibility for well under that.

    I'm keeping my Lumia 735 for now, but I'm just sayin' . . .

    • weakening effects of Windows Mobile retirement:
    • discontinuing the natural evolution of Windows Mobile after the 5,6,7,8,8.1 & 10 editions
    • condemning the mobile OS world market to a weak duopoly & on some markets quasi monopoly, thus reducing incentives for innovation, price, product & costumer satisfaction competition

    +  causing ICT havoc for millions of enthusiastic Windows fans. In many epic movies the hero emerges from the brink of collapse & saves the day ++ so the right choice here is to demonstrate for users that they never have to regret using Windows Mobile

    • Microsoft Mobile is stronger with a strong Windows Mobile arm & can successfully approach & maintain a higher stock market valuation ++ it is a false spring to think that the company is most valuable in the world if downplays Windows Mobile (the competition has made mistakes & there is a trade dispute going on) //

    The natural evolution of what, six failed attempts?  Seven if you count 6.5. 

    Find me a company more innovative than Google. Certainly not Microsoft. 

    Do you honestly believe that a flagship WM OS phone wouldn't be well over $1000 by now? Look at that HP phone with average specs. Bet HP regrets that. 

    Again, what fans? Couldn't even get 25k to sign that laughable petition. 

    By every indication, Microsoft is stronger without mobile.

     ++ really hope that we will see foldable Microsoft devices, which will pave the way for some new Lumias (some months ago some interesting prototypes have emerged from Microsoft Research) ++ why not a foldable Lumia in the future ++

    ++ hope that there will be a large enough price range like with the discontinued (great) Lumia line ++ maybe we will need Cyber Monday & Christmas presents to achieve affordability

    ++ innovation has not to be a race in that the winner takes it all, instead the users can win more from competition, where many players can come up with something special

    ++ Microsoft Lumias still have solid social media numbers of 10s of millions & that is an indication of their popularity ++ the petitions are individual initiatives & we know that the solution to save Windows Mobile can come only from the company ++ that is why you must address directly to the company & not other platforms

    ++ currently Windows Mobile is like the Sleeping beauty & has no major influence on the company value ++ my opinion is that a successful Windows mobile device certainly can be another driving engine (Azure growth can be slower in time for example) that can drive the company to new heights ++ let us not forget that the hybrid Windows Mobile handsets have led the smartphone market between 2006-2008 ++
