++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

    And now they shelve Windows 10X. What's next? The Surface Neo with lots of Google and Android or even Chrome OS in it? I am not talking about the Your Phone app now. I want Windows 10X. If I had the money, I would sign up as a beta tester and fly to Washington state (paying for my own flight and accommodations) and test the OS out for myself.

    It can be done;

    IF - Someone will pay the cost of developing a CPU of that family which is sufficiently small to fit in a cell phone AND a cell motherboard for that CPU AND the cost of development tied writing telephony code for that CPU as well as some type of SDK for app development on the outside as well as basic app development that will ship with the phone when released. I'm sure there's more I've missed.

    It can be done!!

    But as Murphy used to say, "Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself."

    It generally has to do with CPU architecture issues.

    For example, many (many!) years ago, I was working for a man whose franchise business relied on software provided to his firm by the parent company. He was upset that I couldn't run an accounts payable program on his business computer when the parent company said that he could.

    When I hacked the program to look at the code - no great feat since it was written in BASIC - I found ASSEMBLER subroutines in the code. These subroutines essentially do direct addressing of CPU and memory architecture which can be very efficient in some ways, but not in others. Put simply, the program was written to be run on an IBM PC-XT while the business had a PC-AT; 2 different CPU classes. If the program ha been written entirely in BASIC, it would have worked, but not as provided.

    The problem isn't with ARM, it's with the code and what CPU's it's been designed for.
