++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

    ++ the French have also many heroic & wise quotes (some from Alexandre Dumas for example on wikiquote) ++ the loss of the Asian & European production facilities is no big deal for a US company ++ in this case the patents, the IP is important (plus many players in this market have outsourced their production process) ++ the problem is that the leadership is convinced that this 2 billion + customer market is condemned to duopoly ++ well things can change in a couple years, when there is chance for the Harmony OS to claim some important market share ++one such quote from Dumas, "nothing succeeds like success" has to encourage Microsoft to bring forward a revamped Windows Mobile with all of its great features & the accent has to be on the OS itself & some well maintained native apps ++ Microsoft has to offer 5 years of continuous commitment to their platform & the rest is the "developers, developers, developers" mission as Ballmer has once said // 

    PS : one of the market leaders has presented in 2019 the dark mode as a revolutionary achievement within a great marketing event & I (a simple user) have been on dark mode for some good years //

    I think it was at least one solution, but they had to get in the game much earlier. More mobile device types was another.

    They shut the doors and sold everything, so game over. You're correct on the percentage. The bean counters are the ones that call the final shots. I'm assuming they saw no big profits in it. A worthwhile percentage of profit anyway, if any.

    Thank you for the information and link, ThomasHuffman1. My bad. Ignoring the Windows world got the best of me. I kept getting a warning popup from time to time when opening WhatsApp that end of WM service was 12/10 and WhatsApp will not work after 12/31. Kept pushing “Remind me later”. Didn’t know we were getting one last update. Now I see we have another month of life. Updated mine just now. This may change my plans, although I need my WhatsApp for overseas calling and chats.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love my Lumia. My referencing it to as “boat anchor” was in jest. I was keeping it charged and alive without SIM and WiFi off to use the great 18mp camera and possible surfing/Netflix now and then via WiFi. For backup in case I brick my new phone while rooting it as well. With this news I’ll slip the SIM and micro card back in and use it while doing so.

    So far as security, I’d like to believe you, but with the news of service ending I think hackers may do some damage. I mean there’s enough of us still using WM, yes? Perhaps keeping WiFi off and only using cellular data may help. At least for a year or so until things cool down. Perhaps I’m being overcautious. I’ve been burned twice with breaching of my bank card. They used the card scanners to get in. Fortunately, they gave me notice in time. Of course, with the chips in cards now there’s less chance.

    It’s probably corporations being breached we need to be more concerned about. Geez……

    ++ a "commercial store app department" could be a working solution to address the app gap problem & of course it is difficult to meet all the customers' expectations, but I think it is like in the NBA : if the team is above 75% winning percentage (i.e. successfully addresses more than 3/4 of the market in our case), then it is definitely a title contender ++ the one month extension of support is a nice present for the user community (under cover users included & in terms of mobile strategy Microsoft is definitely not a boring company) ++ a great software company, like Microsoft, probably has more advanced experimental versions of Windows 10 mobile & the end of service notification is just for version 1709, because in the future a strategy change cannot be ruled out //
