++ the future of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones ++

++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

    • have read all the opinions & from each viewpoint we can adjust our own viewpoint & make it more competitive // comebacks are not easy (+ I remember the attempt of Ray & Anita (2 unlimited) with "in da name of love" +) & the fans want to benefit from Windows 10 as a service also in mobile & that is why I have tried to make some noise // a Surface foldable device with phone features would make Microsoft Mobile stronger & that is + // but Windows 10 Mobile as a service has to reach also the emerging markets of Asia, America, Africa & Europe & why not Oceania  & that is where the Lumia line can do the trick // e.g. the Gates Foundation has many actions in Africa & so you have to care also for the smartphone market // these devices will not go away & I think that for some years they will not change fundamentally & the market can reach 4 billion devices in a couple years // fans have said also in this discussion that the key is to adapt supply to demand // if fans want 20 million devices a year manufacture that amount & if they want 10 million then be happy with 10 million // the company has the resources to invest in this hobby (here we recognize the merits of the management team) & a hobby can become profitable in many ways // happy Anniversary Windows 10 as a service //

P.S. when you hear about MS maybe not the success of Microsoft Mobile comes in your mind, but the company still has many great innovations in this field & can build on that.

whilst I agree with some of your passion for the product and would love to see this decision reversed I can't help but agree with Rbasin and 93tid that your enthusiasm is insufficient to turn it around.

I think the mistakes MS have made in Mobile (and in other consumer hardware they have attempted) are deep routed in the consumer psyche at this point and will not be turned around with product improvements or 'new' versions.

To make any kind of dent in the dominance of Apple and Google at this point will require something truly game changing which 'just works' from day 1 and is so compelling that purchase is considered absolutely essential. For all the stuff MS do well - and I agree they do occasionally have good ideas and execute them properly - they have never excelled at first mover technology,  they really don't get 'mass market appeal' and they've only recently put in place the infrastructure to handle large volumes of non-technical users properly and they still struggle to make use of that infrastructure for consumers. Apple won the smartphone market by making something that was beautiful, beneficial, radically different and working (sufficiently) from launch - Microsoft have never done that. Google gained share by delivering a free-to-use OS and helping hardware partners develop devices which take advantage of it - Microsoft have never done that either.

Nadel may not be taking the company in a direction I like but he's clearly focussing on their strengths where he sees them and consumer devices have never been a big market for them other than xbox, even their Mice/Keyboards and web cams are overpriced and confusing these days. Xbox 360 was a good market but they fluffed the launch of XB One and handed it to Sony.

    • maybe I am too optimistic, but a multidimensional view can enrich our perspective & even a very productive CEO can make mistakes // like in sports a competitive striker is not necessarily a strong defender or a sprinter is not necessarily a hill climber (tour de france) // in my opinion it is never a good idea to abandon millions of true fans for some potential hybrid fans & so think twice before shut down the extraordinary Microsoft Lumia //

++ for potential buyers the difficult option is the jungle of amazon and ebay, where genuine quality are at risk // you can also try amazon.de //

    • in this stage of searching ways one of the best mobile browsers (Microsoft Edge - for me the best) only just achieves a top 10 position among mobile browsers with approximately 0.13% // NETMARKETSHARE // in desktop versions has approximately 4.2% // Internet Explorer has 12%+ in desktop & 0.05% in mobile (with Windows Phone 8.1) // these are global figures & for the company more important is the share on target markets (USA, EU top 5, CHN, JAP, CAN) //

++ with some attention we can view that Android 8 & iOS 11.3-4 have also small market shares, so Windows 10 mobile is not so tiny after all in the mobile OS market //
