++ the future of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones ++

++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

    • thanks for the user insights // I think we still have plenty of reasons to use Windows Mobile & hope for further development // in tech one hardly can say the best is yet to come, because innovation it is a linear process & can bring also game-changing phases & spectacular advancements // I also have had some - experience, because the Company Financials app is not working, but Fitbit works again & FoodFact is quite a useful app on the + side // your videos are saved in the cloud, so they are not lost // it would be great in my opinion to have the capacity (like with Windows 10 PC) to record games //

    • & a quote from Formula 1 : "the others just have done a better job over the winter in many areas & we have to obviously compete in all these areas & improve" (Schumacher)

My three phones show how much i liked it. Liked it better with 8 than 10, which on both pc and my old (very old) 950, is just a mess. (Can we just choose a stable release and stay with it?)

No more. My Pixel 2 XL blows that 950 out of the water. Its not even close. I'm hard pressed to even call a Lumia a mobile phone in comparison. No joke. I pulled that 950 out of the box, and cranked it up. I can't print, can't stream, no banking app. Oh, has Onedrive gotten worse?  Its slower than before.

I updated the OS. Only took like three lifetimes. Updated the apps. Some disappeared.

Video quality is lacking on the 950, especially with anything with fast movements.

Camera is showing its age. Sound is ok. A bit tinny, but ok.

    • as long as Live Tiles are active Windows Phone is still in action (although Windows Phone 8.1 is old & heads to the tech museum it still works). // you know that Windows 10 mobile is in great shape //
    • there are users who are not interested in phones, which do not maintain their competitiveness at least 3 years, so can be developed the idea of 3-4-5 year production cycles. I like tech museums & I think an appreciated device has to rest there & not necessarily must end up scrapped //
    • for users who appreciate Windows, obviously Windows Phone is the perfect match with a Windows 10 computer (Windows 7 has official support through 2020 & will resist beyond that // there are still many Windows XP in use)
    • Windows Phone reinforces Universal Windows Platform, e.g. the Formula 1 app disappeared from the MS Store totally after the company discontinued its phone efforts & this is not an isolated example //
    • to be on the mobile OS podium it is not a bad thing //
    • native apps are great, there are plenty of competitive third party apps to match your time // some cameras are really great & others do their job as well // email is there, skype & phone services // basin's reaction reminds me the Logical Song (there are more than one version to this & the racing one states that "stand up, once again...Goodbye"...that is how actually Windows 10 mobile enters into a possible pit-stop)
    • listen to Panay's presentation of the Lumia line and there you can get plenty more tech reasons & something we can build on //

sure, old hardware is superseded as you say in another post, I'm using a Lumia 950 so the later win10m still works - if 1709 is the last version to be released I won't be terribly unhappy, it works for what I need.

to be clear - I would like MS to reverse the decision to drop win10m but I understand why they did it and don't expect any change

    • the devices are aging undoubtedly & if they resist 5 years, we can say they are competitive ++ of course Lumia fans have this existential challenge for their phones in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Lumia line //
    • software updates still provide a fresh feeling & many broken apps are from third parties (many can be fixed with a simple reinstallation &. there are fewer issues on version 1709)
    • like in F1 sometimes it takes time to achieve the right settings
    • the official twitter of Lumia is an indication for the point of time, when the strategy has changed in a - way ++ end of 2016 it is not the end, instead it is the beginning of a new adventure //
