++ the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumia mobile phones is discontinued, but many of them are still in action and competitive. In my opinion, the timing for their launch alongside the first versions of Windows 10 mobile has been a problem (later versions of Windows 10 mobile are more competitive). I compare the path of Microsoft Lumia phones with the path of Mercedes F1 Team. If you have perseverance, you can win, but you need to have realistic intermediary goals. You must not be number one from the start, but rather be on the field, with competitive, distinctive devices (1% market share can be achieved with the core fans of Microsoft Windows). 1% is not a small number of users & translates to even more when we focus on Windows users. So my question is for Microsoft & fans // is it possible to continue the manufacturing process of Microsoft Lumias for the fans of the brand & Windows ? // ++  #theWindowsthatneversleeps +

Absolutely..... It was on its way to become the best phone in the world. I always agree with Szilard.

    • well, the fruits of this discussion the users or multiple users will earn or will not after Human Rights Day (10th December) 2019, until then at least Windows 10 mobile is great for the exclusive club of delighted Windows Mobile users // I not like the suggested new name, better simply name it Windows 11 or Windows Core OS // I emphasize that Windows 10 mobile is in top shape & I am convinced a product has a great future, if it becomes better // & I hope that the new foldable device also will be powered by Windows 10 mobile & let's wait & see //

whilst I agree with some of your passion for the product and would love to see this decision reversed I can't help but agree with Rbasin and 93tid that your enthusiasm is insufficient to turn it around.

I think the mistakes MS have made in Mobile (and in other consumer hardware they have attempted) are deep routed in the consumer psyche at this point and will not be turned around with product improvements or 'new' versions.

To make any kind of dent in the dominance of Apple and Google at this point will require something truly game changing which 'just works' from day 1 and is so compelling that purchase is considered absolutely essential. For all the stuff MS do well - and I agree they do occasionally have good ideas and execute them properly - they have never excelled at first mover technology,  they really don't get 'mass market appeal' and they've only recently put in place the infrastructure to handle large volumes of non-technical users properly and they still struggle to make use of that infrastructure for consumers. Apple won the smartphone market by making something that was beautiful, beneficial, radically different and working (sufficiently) from launch - Microsoft have never done that. Google gained share by delivering a free-to-use OS and helping hardware partners develop devices which take advantage of it - Microsoft have never done that either.

Nadel may not be taking the company in a direction I like but he's clearly focussing on their strengths where he sees them and consumer devices have never been a big market for them other than xbox, even their Mice/Keyboards and web cams are overpriced and confusing these days. Xbox 360 was a good market but they fluffed the launch of XB One and handed it to Sony.

You are looking for brand new unit of a device which was discontinued over 2 years ago - not an easy task. Only chance is online and you will have to be very careful and very lucky. I personally have no specific ideas.

Support for Windows 10 Mobile is almost the same as other editions of Windows 10, but the support duration is slightly longer. Each version of Windows 10 Mobile is supported for around 26 months (2 years and 2 months) from the date of release. End of support dates for each version of Windows 10 Mobile:

    Windows 10 Mobile version 1511 build 10586 / Initial Release: January 9, 2018

    Windows 10 Mobile version 1607 build 14393 / Anniversary Update: October 9, 2018

    Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 build 15063 / Creators Update: June 11, 2019

    Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 build 15254 / Fall Creators Update: December 10, 2019 *

    * Tentative dates, support may be extended. The exact date will be announced within 1 year of these dates.

    Lumia Support Lifecycle

Lumia phones are supported for 2 years from the date they are launched. This means they get Feature Updates during those 2 years. Each Feature Update is supported for around 26 months. The last Feature Update that a Lumia phone gets at the end of the 2 years will be supported for around 2 years, so the total support period for a Lumia phone is around 4 years from the date it is launched.

In short, a Lumia phone will get Feature Updates for 2 years and it will get Cumulative Updates for the last Feature Update for 2 more years.

For the 950XL OS support ends December 10, 2019. Device warranty is generally 12 months from date of purchase as new, 24 months for the EU market.

Please note that the support from now onward will consist only of bug fixes and security patches. No new features or hardware will be developed further for Windows 10 Mobile. Nobody knows what support will be offered for apps developed by Microsoft.
