Permanently disable Touchscreen in Windows 10 [Solution inside!]

In this forum there are a dozen threads that ask the same question: How can I permanently disable a defective touchscreen in a Windows 10 device so that I can continue using the device without being disturbed by the faulty signals from the touchscreen.

Unfortunately in none of those threads (at least not those I've found) the question is answered properly. Instead the helpers fantasize about the device manager (which doesn't work since Windows just reenables the disabled device at the latest when rebooting) and claim that there is no other solution in Windows.

Luckily there actually IS a solution which I'll explain now:

  1. Open regedit
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch
  3. Create a new DWORD (32 bit) with the name TouchGate
  4. Doubleclik on the newly ceated DWORD and make sure it has the value 0

(0 = touch disabled, 1 = touch enabled)

After rebooting the touch functionality should be disabled permanently and therefore your problem solved.

(I could not give this solution to the already existing threads because unfortunately they have been closed with no correct answer... hope someone in the future finds this ...)

    This may sound a silly question but I presume it is a touch screen laptop as even if touch screen defective the driver would show

    I presume because you can open device manager that the keyboard and mouse are working

    have you tried plugging in a usb memory stick to see if it is detectected, then search for new devices

    if nothing found probably a hardware failure, you have tried checking your drivers

    I´ve checked and my pc  detects usb memory stick. The only thing that doens´t work is touchscreen driver.

    I dropped the laptop (Asus) out two days ago, and when I open the device manager i don't find the USB input devices or HID touch screen driver.

    Could anyone help me?... I have tried everything

    The solution has already been posted, I take no credit for this - it works for all accounts on the computer running Win 10 OS 2020.

    Just edit the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch

    change the value to 0 from 1

    Reboot 

    open device manager 

    select Human Interface Device  - you will see touch screen is present, right click and you will see it is not enabled.

    Problem solved, plugging in any new devices will not re enable the touch screen. As it would if you only disabled touch screen in Device Manager.

    This is a pernament fix.

    As I said at the beginning I take no credit for this fix it was posted on page 1 but not as comprehensively.
