Permanently disable Touchscreen in Windows 10 [Solution inside!]

In this forum there are a dozen threads that ask the same question: How can I permanently disable a defective touchscreen in a Windows 10 device so that I can continue using the device without being disturbed by the faulty signals from the touchscreen.

Unfortunately in none of those threads (at least not those I've found) the question is answered properly. Instead the helpers fantasize about the device manager (which doesn't work since Windows just reenables the disabled device at the latest when rebooting) and claim that there is no other solution in Windows.

Luckily there actually IS a solution which I'll explain now:

  1. Open regedit
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch
  3. Create a new DWORD (32 bit) with the name TouchGate
  4. Doubleclik on the newly ceated DWORD and make sure it has the value 0

(0 = touch disabled, 1 = touch enabled)

After rebooting the touch functionality should be disabled permanently and therefore your problem solved.

(I could not give this solution to the already existing threads because unfortunately they have been closed with no correct answer... hope someone in the future finds this ...)

    I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this. I was ready to trash my PC. I just wish I found it before I completely wiped it clean and lost my MS Office package. That is much cheaper than a new PC so I’m not too mad about it.

    I followed this step by step and it worked like magic.

    For those of you, like myself, that don’t know what “regedit” is just do a basic search and it pulls right up. Then follow the instructions step by step.

    Totally saved my computer from the trashbin

    Glad to help. A word of warning though if you install the latest win 21h update it over writes the registry and this fix.

    It will cause chaos if you have a password set as the pulsing bubbles just restart the PC. If no password set just click device manager as before disable the touch screen (dont reboot) all will be working normal just change the reg key again as per instructions. Fix will stay until probably Windows 11 comes out.

    Don't upgrade to win 11 with an active password set.

    If you have a password set the logon screen section will be black and wont allow you to enter password.

    Solution -time consuming keep moving cursor to attempt to enter password, it will turn white, enter first character of password - Important you have to wait for the characters background to go from black to white then enter next character and so on. You will learn to watch the bubbles hover over the bottom r/h corner to enter password characters one at a time.
