Error 0x80070bc2 during installation KB4074588

Hallo

i have problem during installation KB4074588. After restart pc is error 0x80070bc2. Win 10 ver 1709.

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Windows update

(Update - 2/17 Editing for clarity based on feedback)

If you are currently experiencing the 0x80070bc2 error while attempting to install KB4074588, please try this:

  1. In the search box on the taskbar, type cmd.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select Run as administrator.  (Select Yes, when prompted by the User Account Control.)
  3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

SC config trustedinstaller start=auto 4. Restart the PC.

In some cases, a second restart may be required. If you look under Settings > Update & security and you see the message Status: Awaiting restart, restart the PC a second time to complete the installation.

    Hi awoodworker,

    Several updates have been released after the KB4074588. I suggest running the Windows Update again to install the new cumulative and security updates. No worries, new update contains all the improvements and fixes from the previous builds.

    I think a lot of folks in this board tend to not read the original query posted.  The issue is there is NO ERROR message.  Windows simply fails to perform what it says it is trying to do which is finshing updating the system.  Each time you restart the computer still goes back to its original state saying there is attention required - in the form of Updates are required to be installed.  It is pathetic on part of MS to not find a fix.  I also suspect that AMD machines with a RADEON install experience it

    • I never had this issue but recently I caved and installed the recommended AMD Radeon Graphic card related s/w and this issue cropped up with Windows updates not getting updated.  The Radeon on the other hand removed a diff issue which was MS Photo viewer images were getting cropped without it.  I have no idea of the cause and effect to say it is scientifically related but it is what I observed.   Load of crap trying to get multiple vendor s/w to work with each other is bottom line.

    Hi,

    I tried all types of recommendations and this one worked.

    You do need to remember when you type in "cmd" in the search menu, right click on the "Command Prompt" icon and a message will prompt you to select "Run as administrator"  with other messages.  Be sure to select "Run as administrator".

    Once selected, a DOS window will open and in it I typed:

    "SC config trustedinstaller start= auto" followed by ENTER

    In the search menu, I entered "check for updates" and the setting page was blank. Why? I have no clue.

    However, I did as suggested and restarted windows and when I went to restart, I received the message "Windows is Updating". Once the update message was finished, windows took me to the start window.

    After that I checked again with "check for updates" all the updates were installed.

    I did as you said.

    It does not work for me.

    For your information, Microsoft has acknowledged that there is a bug in the Update software and that it will take two months to fix it.
