Is it possible to permanently delete windows 10 update assistant?

Yes I know there are some 3rd party solutions to stopping updates.

The point I was trying to make is that Microsoft has many areas in their system that would imply that we can choose to disable or delete items we don't want to accept, but after we make those choices Microsoft re-enables or reinstalls them.

Another area they do this is for wake timers. I would clear a box that allows the item to wake my pc, then sometime later it becomes checked again.

If Microsoft feels they know how my pc should be used, then they should just eliminate the options instead of pretending I have some sort of control over them.

 Microsoft will not allow you to stop them, no matter what you do.

I suspect that an unstated factor here is whether there is an upgrade being done from a version which has been made recently unsupported.

Most of us realize the people here are volunteers and not Microsoft employees.

But what is frustrating is the huge amount of incorrect information being posted by "experts".

The comment "The app is now gone for good unless you choose to reinstall it." is completely wrong.

Microsoft will reinstall it at their earliest opportunity.

That is what is so upsetting about this whole update issue. Microsoft will not allow you to stop them, no matter what you do.

EVERYTHING you do in systems, task scheduler, folder deletes, etc. will be restored at some point by Microsoft.

Some forums have stickies which is a post that shows up at the top all the time and doesn't move down the order with time.

I wish the moderator would post one here saying you can't stop updates.

Windows Updates, when they are correctly downloaded and installed, make your computer better, safer, and easier to use.

There are, however, some rules about downloading the updates but before we get to that let us discuss the Microsoft Update Assistant. Can you uninstall it. Yes. Permanently? Yes. It won't affect the updates but you can remove that specific app any time you like. Mostly what it provides is an easy shortcut to see if you are up to date. You click on it and see this 90% of the time:

which is always nice to know that you have the latest version. If you didn't it would direct you to update your device. And, possibly assist you in doing so. I really don't know. I've never actually used it for anything. 

To uninstall: Right click on the icon in your app menu and select uninstall. This will take you to your control panel/programs and features/ uninstall screen where you will see the updater.

Right click and select uninstall again which takes you to this screen:

Select uninstall once more. The app is now gone for good unless you choose to reinstall it.

But, as I said. Your computer will still update. One issue seems to be that users have 3rd party software running, third party antivirus and registry editing programs especially which can really foul up your O/S causing updates to not install properly, fail outright, and...in worst case scenarios cause their device to fail to roll back or even start up in the normal way.

And then they get mad at Microsoft. Well, fine. If you're mad at that company contact THEM and tell them. Microsoft Corporation

Don't tell us in the community. We voluntarily spend our time helping others so they can save a few bucks when something goes wrong rather than calling The Geek Squad or whoever and blowing their life savings.

We don't work for Microsoft. Except for Forum Moderators we aren't even LOOSELY connected with Microsoft.

And when you waste words telling us how much you hate Microsoft we wonder why you don't just go buy a different computer with a different operating system. Or build your own and install an open source O/S on it...whatever.

We will try and help...but we won't wade through a ton of trash talk to do it.
