I have a HP laptop (Model: 15-ac121na) using Windows 10 Home and for the last 3months ive been having problems with very slow internet speed. I tried so many different solutions to no avail and eventually i come across a temporary fix of rolling back the driver of the network adapter to version 2023.4.720.2015 however every time i close the laptop or restart it the network adapter updates itself again. This situation is bearable but now suddenly i keep getting window assistant pop ups constantly trying to download 5GB of updates. After giving in on what seems like the 1000th attempt to stop it i let the updates install and upon logging into my laptop i noticed the internet speeds had dropped again, i tried to roll back the driver but the option is now greyed out and i was stuck with just 54kbps on version 2023.58.731.2017!! I uninstalled the updates by going back to the previous windows build and now everything is back to normal (me rolling back the driver every so often) but im still getting windows assistant pop ups trying to install even after i went to control panel and deleted the application!
If anyone could help me with either deleting the assistant permanently or even my dodgy speeds i would be very greatful.

Already tried factory condition, didn't solved it.
I don't want to install and setup all programs again, and setup all settings again. I want what I paid for. There are no real alternatives to windows at this point, bill gates robbed ibm dos and then os/2 from ibm into what is now windows, then at least he should do it right.
Or microsoft can start for the first time in history, start to make updates that work, and not forcing users to do what they don't want to do.
I have the same problems you have, but worse, because everytime windows update "reverts back", my windows gets more and more corrupt and more unstable because it does a very bad job at reverting.
And it is not a problem with PCs, it is a problem with updates, and the very bad quality of microsoft windows updates are well known and well documented over the years.
I appear to have killed it also--uninstall it from control panel, then run task scheduler and under microsoft/windows/windows update (and update orchestrator)--disable all tasks in those two areas. That appears to have stopped it. It's been on the web to do that, I just had failed to get them all disabled in updateorchestrator. At some point, I'll try and uninstall some old programs on the Surface Pro 4 and see if I can get it to go from version 1703 to 1709. Failing that, to get the latest creator update it will take a clean install, which is always a pain to go through. As I said earlier, we are at the point where MS just can't write the software to update any and all computers running and and all software. It's too complicated with too many variables. Apple has always controlled the software allowed on the system more carefully and will tell you when a program will no longer run on the update. And they update it anyway. MS stops Windows from doing that so as not to have problems with people running mission critical ancient software or add ons. To some that's a good thing, but the darn updater just keeps trying instead of giving up.

I have been having the same exact problem as mentioned by the other users in this thread.
I contacted MS (https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/contactus/windows/tech-services/) customer support 3 times whereby the technician took over my PC remotely to work on it.
STILL NO LUCK!!
In summary:
The Update Assistant is behaving like a virus or spamware that cannot be disabled or uninstalled simply
MS technicians (as much as they tried) are as clueless as us on how to resolve this
It is affecting my work and THIS IS WRONG!
Please resolve this as soon as possible.

Also having this issue.
Whenever I try to install the updates that the Microsoft Windows 10 Update Assistant is trying to install, it freezes my computer at 82%. So I've tried contacting microsoft support 3 different times. Each time they do the same thing, and uninstall the assistant, turn off updates services. But of course the assistant comes back and tries to download updates again which will freeze my computer. (I then have to turn off the computer, and restart it, it has to restore windows, and this takes up an hour of my time each morning to simply turn on my computer. The support people at Microsoft said that I can't install that update due to "incompatible drivers" but said they had no idea which drivers were causing the issue.
