Is it possible to permanently delete windows 10 update assistant?

So here's what I tried, and it seems to be working so far. (Found the answer on another forum)

1. Type "Task Scheduler" in the search bar next to the windows icon in the lower left corner. A window will pop up.
2. On the left hand side, click Task Scheduler Library>Microsoft>Windows>UpdateOrchestrator. Once you click on "UpdateOrchestrator", you will see a list become populated in the center upper portion of the window.
3. What you want to do at this point is DISABLE "UpdateAssistant" and "UpdateAssistantCalendarRun". Voila. Windows 10 Update Assistant will be dead forever and you are free to use your perfectly working as-is PC indefinitely without interruptions.

I have exactly the same problem, I have tried everything I have found on the internet and nothing seems to stop it, I even renamed the file c:\windows10upgrade\windows10upgraderapp.exe to windows10upgraderapp.bak.

and I could not believe that the file was back on my computer (windows10upgraderapp.exe ) this morning and starting to download version 1703 again.

I have to keep going into task manager CTRL+ alt + del and stopping the app from running, if not it will start to install again and I will loose the use of my computer while it's upgrading and I know it will fail again.

Every file on my computer has now been disabled so my windows 10 is probably a mess and will probably not run properly in the future.

I just hope someone from Microsoft reads this and can help.

I had the same problem, Windows10UpgraderApp.exe always kept coming back, if I terminated it's process it started again after 10 minutes or so. Then the updates failed to install, and all this repeated forever. The working solution comes in a batch file!

Create a new file anywhere, name it anti_update_cycle.cmd

Paste this script into your file:

:st

taskkill -f -im Windows10UpgraderApp.exe

timeout 1

del c:\Windows10Upgrade\Windows10UpgraderApp.exe

timeout 5

goto st

You have to run this command line script to get rid of the annoying Win10 upgrader. It closes the updater application and deletes it's executable. It will keep coming back but will be closed in seconds, before appearing on screen. You should put this script file into your Startup folder and set it's shortcut to always start it minimized. (use google for these steps)

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND AM SICK AND TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME WITH MS'S BS AND HAVING IT FORCED ON ME TO DO THE STUPID UPDATES. ESPECIALLY SINCE LAST TIME MY LAPTOP WENT INTO AN ENDLESS LOOP AND DIDNT WANT TO RESTART AND HAD TO GO TO AN EXTERNAL HDD AND REINSTALL FROM THERE. LOST A LOT OF FILES.

SO WHAT IS THE BLOODY SOLUTION MS?

I AM NEVER EVER GOING TO DO ANY UPDATES UNTIL I GET A NEW LAPTOP. PERIOD!!!!!!

I actually created a Microsoft account to vent on this thread. I have had the EXACT issues. Windows 1703 will NOT install on my desktop and I've tried for MONTHS. Then suddenly the past week my computer has been hijacked by this update assistant that stalls everything I do on my computer to force me to install the 1703 version even though it ALWAYS stalls at 81 percent.

In the past 48 hours I have trues several fixes, including reseting my computer twice and wiped out all personal files (after I made copies, of course) and the dreaded 1703 version still WONT load. I am incredibly disheartened to read this thread and not see a fix I haven't tried.

I fear I am going to have to do one or two drastic things. Completely unplug from the internet to stop this update assistant from hijacking my computer and frustrating me while I work and just use my phone to check email ... OR buy a new computer. So I'm forced to either have a glorified typewriter or shell out hundreds of dollars I don't have because Microsoft has put a virus-like program on my computer. By the way, if I have to get a new computer because of this issue, it will be an Apple. This experience has been horrible and has wasted HOURS of my time.
