How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Having this problem with a Dell E521--also an AMD CPU.  I downloaded and ran the latest version of the Windows Update Trouble shooter, which attempted to fix problems, and indicated it could not fix an issue with "Windows Update Configuration". Attempting the update again after that gave the same failure result.

    Well if the problem is the AV then the problem is still Microsofts'. Since the only AV I have running on my PC is their very own Security Essentials.

    I have downloaded this from the Catalog directly, and when trying to run the error I get is:

    "Security Update for Windows (KB4056892) is already installed on this computer."

    This despite the fact that it has failed twice during automatic update.

    Ever since installing this patch my pc has randomly locked up 3 times during gaming.  Didn't have this problem prior to the patch.

    "Security Update for Windows (KB4056892) is already installed on this computer."

    That suggests it is installed but not applied.

    Heh.  I wonder if there is a typo in this workaround.  This is actually one of the issues that this patch is supposed to be fixing

    If that is the case you don't have anything to worry about and you should not see it offered again.

    Unfortunately they deleted the original workaround but fortunately we have a copy of the original
