How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    The commands I gave do work because I executed them on my PC.

    Every time there is an update, I receive a bottom right hand small interface informing me that there are Microsoft updates and what do I want to do with them. I can merely choose to ignore them if I so choose to.

    The screen grab was taken from my own PC and they are the settings I chose.

    Here is what I am currently doing to remedy this problem. Understand this is not a complete fix.

    1 If you have the system back online and are getting the awaiting restart message. Do not restart the computer under any circumstances it will put you back to the blue screen. Go to settings. Then update and security. Then view update history. Then uninstall updates. Choose the offending update and uninstall. Once that is completed shut your system down completely and cold boot your system. If you don't know how to cold boot it means shut down and unplug everything, push your start button with everything disconnected until you have drained all power from the system. Once that is done you can plug everything back in and start your system again.

    1. Once you have every thing running again, right click the start button on your display and choose computer management. Double click services and applications. Double click services. Scroll down to windows update and double click. In startup type choose: disabled. In service status choose: stop. Be sure to choose: apply at the bottom of the window and click OK to close. Close computer management and you are set to run. This step is only temporary. You need to get a hold of Support to see if a more permanent fix is available. Step 2 must be repeated every day before 18:00 your time. Windows has an auto reset on updates. If you miss the time window. you will receive the update that crashes your system again. I am having the same problem and I have not found a fix for my chip set yet. You additionally can disable your internet connection if your are not present to monitor your system.     We have been over this time and time again. If you use the Microsoft tool wushowhide Troubleshooting Pack Cabinet (.diagcab) you block this annoying KB4056892 update.

    Microsoft informed me that they are no longer offering this update and the developers will this week, offer a replacement update that fixes this offending file that clashes with AMD chipsets.

    With all due respect I will believe that when I see it. I heard the same line when when all of this started nearly a month ago it is always next week and in the meantime updates keep trying to install on my system and I for one am not going to blindly accept anything anyone says. I am tired of having to rebuild my system because of faulty upgrades. If you think this is wrong consider having to spend hours and hours just trying your system from crashing and unable to do any work other than repair.

    I too use same kind of lap top and had same issue. I tried to block update from the cab file. I selected Hide updates and checked the KB4056892  fix to block from automatic update.
