Update. Even though I had hidden KB4056892, after downloading and running KB4073290, wushowhide says there are no hidden updates and everything is good.
How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?
KB4056892 is Awaiting restart
Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there. I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair. The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.
With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem. At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.
Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable. However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart
How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

2018-01-24T02:33:48+00:00 Microsoft technical support said that KB4073290 may fix but couldn't confirm as it is just a cumulative update and not a fix or patch as a stand alone installer.
He told me to expect an update to fix it, by next week when Microsoft release a new update that will replace KB4056892.

2018-01-24T11:37:19+00:00 Thanks Peter,
Nearest thing I've heard to a useful answer yet.
The lack of official communication from MS beggars belief.
Kind regards

2018-01-24T23:57:00+00:00 That's because we're all doing it wrong. I thought exactly the same but Microsoft has an extremely good customer service. More than we realise so don't think to use it. USE THE GET HELP APP! They will do everything for you via remote access.
