How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Thanks Partialtripod, that seems to have worked for me too!

    I am now at version 1709 build 16299.201 with no pending updates.

    ok had same issues here is what i did and for me it worked like a charm.

    Formatted the hdd, reinstalled windows 10 via usb install media

    Then physically checked for updates

    First it installed all the usual updates,

    Then downloaded the KB4056892 PLEASE note this update is downloaded in 2 stages. And also installs in 2 stages.

    And then restarted and hey presto 🤗 worked like a charm

    Cpu AMD turion x 2 64

    Well this is not really what your asking for but here are the patches for the problems with amd cpu’s both for 32-bit and 64-bit being unable to boot after trying to install the update. It worked for my system.

    after wakeup screen is just like attached..and that need reboot again. 

    Have you tried  Win+Ctrl+Shift+B  instead?  (May be needed more than once with psychic pauses between retries.)

    Alternatively, still trying to avoid a Restart, try using a change in the Project dialog to cause a Refresh.  E.g. Win+P, CursorUp, Enter.  Note that if the change would go to Second Screen Only there will be a Keep this? prompt to which you could reply with Tab, Enter.  However, it would be a good idea to have Narrator running first so you can still feel that you're in control.  Win+Ctrl+Enter.

    Mine is not AMD its Intel i7... After i skipped the update its rebooting and looks is fine, but when I keep my laptop in Sleep mode and after wakeuo screen is just like attached..and that need reboot again.
