How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    I'm on the Creators Fall version 1709 16299.125 and had the same problem of the blue Window on restart.

    To put this 4056892 non fix on hold :-

    Used the Update Advanced Settings to switch on the Pause Updates (Feb12th)

    Then from CMD as admin:-

    net stop wuauserv                           (was already stopped! maybe because all updates paused until Feb 12th?)

    rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q

    net start wuauserv        (not restarted)

    exit

    So over to you at Redmond ......

    I have been in contact with Microsoft and they informed me that they are currently in discussion with AMD on the fix of the KB4056892 incompatibility issue.

    I will keep you all posted on this but it doesn't look like tomorrow is likely to be the day they resolve this update. Until such time, please ensure you keep this cumulative update blocked!

    In my experience you must open Task Manager and disable the four Microsoft Windows Update tasks to prevent updates from installing.

    I ran it and allowed it to do whatever it wanted.

    I was then able to hide KB4056892.

    I then ran:

    net stop wuauserv

    rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q

    net start wuauserv

    But KB4056892 is still showing as pending restart in Windows Update

    I stopped updates all together till I see that Microsoft has fixed the AMD Processor problem with update (KB4056892).  The best and quickest way to stop updates is:

    Type Services in Search

    When in Services, go to WindowsUpdate

    Do a right click and click Stop

    Do another right click on Properties

    Click on Disabled

    At this point when you reboot you may still have an auto install on the bad patch.

    So, cold boot it this time so as to get an Auto Repair going on the boot.

    When you get that to finish it deletes the waiting bad patch and it won't try to get it again.
