KB4056892 is Awaiting restart
Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there. I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair. The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.
With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem. At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.
Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable. However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart
How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

I have three Toshiba laptops that no longer work since MS did something to screw the update for AMD users. It goes to the update, fails and has no idea why it won't load. Some programmers might be needed. End up with the four windows that let run for three days because Microshaft said things might be a little slow. Whoopee.
What would be the purpose of repeating myself in the get help section when many people reported it here. Besides, I know the issues we're having is already known to Microsoft. Question is, what are they going to do about it and when? I have a home computer and does it make you wonder the trouble it's causing for businesses.
Microsoft is working hard together with chipset vendors AMD and Intel although it is mainly an AMD issue!
"Microsoft has determined that some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided to Microsoft to develop the Windows operating system mitigations to protect against the chipset vulnerabilities known as Spectre and Meltdown.”.
Try to refer to the 'Get Help' section app and open up a request case for a resolution to your particular problem.
This problem isn't just happening to AMD computers. I have a Intel 8700k Coffee Lake and when my pc tries to install this update at stays at 99% and never finishes. While this is happening, my cpu is speeding up and down without end. I tried the extreme of doing a system recovery to delete everything. When a red background screen shows up saying it's rebooting for a factory reset to begin it never does reboot my pc. I have to continue doing hard resets then finally I'll get to the blue screen trouble shooting screen then I'm able to reset my OS. This update is like a virus that brings trouble with no end. At the moment, I have system updates on pause but eventually it will download the update from hell again. I can only hope during this waiting period, Microsoft will have a solution for this problem.
Like a lot of Microsoft's products once bought or offered as a free download, a lot of the guesswork is left to us!
Because the update 'KB4056892' still resides in Microsoft®Update Catalogue, I'm assuming this patchwork update 'KB4073290' will do the trick but I'm not downloading until Microsoft offer it from the Update & Security interface.
So long as you have it on block like I do, 'KB4056892' remains residing on their server until further instructions from the user. Its designated "Knowledge Base" digits will remain intact until either parties fix the bug.
