How Do I Block 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)?

KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

Unfortunately, when I did a restart it bricked my system. I had a large windows logo on the screen and it just sat there.  I rebooted and was able to trigger a repair.  The repair said it was backing out the last update as it would not be completely installed.

With KB4056892 is Awaiting restart I did another restart and had the same problem.  At the end I was staring at a Windows logo that just sat there.

Again I triggered a repair and the system is now usable.  However, Windows Update still says: KB4056892 is Awaiting restart

How do I block it so it doesn't get installed if I have to reboot the machine?

    Old but always reliable AMD based machine exhibits same behavior as reported; windows logo and zero response to input. Reboot triggers auto repair and I can now type this message but windows update is threatening to bone me again with the next reboot. I have a full (FULL) day of work ahead of me and would like to think that my system will be stable but am dubious. Deeply frustrating, where's the fix, Microsoft?

    Type cmd in search and Run as administrator then type as follows;

    net stop wuauservrmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /qnet start wuauserv exit

    This is where your (KB4056892) is stored on your hard drive folder: - %windir%\softwaredistribution\download

    Depending upon the updates, different folders get created on the above location.

    For clearing the contents of the softwaredistribution folder, try the below commands on the command prompt.

    Type cmd in search and Run as administrator then type as follows;

    net stop wuauserv

    rmdir %windir%\softwaredistribution  /s /q

    net start wuauserv

    exit

    Same problem here, also using a amd cpu with 6 core.. and total crash of my gaming desktop. All restore points gone, no windows 10 install to find on my pc.. now trying to reinstall my win 7 and upgrade from there. How can i do an auto update without the kb4056892 ?

    Obviously, KB4056892 has been downloaded since it is waiting for a restart to brick my machine.  Where is it so I can manually delete it from my machine?

    Did you use WUT and allow it to delete all downloaded files?   If it leaves stuff behind after saying it deleted it I would delete the whole Download directory.  It will regenerate.

    Also, you could use WindowsUpdate.log to get some clues about where it is coming from.
