Print job goes into queue and instantly disappears with nothing being printed

For some reason my system has stopped working correctly with one of my printers. The system sees the printer as being connected and available and when I print the job goes to the print queue. However it then instantly disappears and nothing is printed. Can someone advise?

The printer with the problem is an Epson Stylus Photo 1290. The printer was working a couple of days ago and the only thing I can think that has happened is that there was an automatic windows update.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 15063.726

I have tried: starting and stopping the print spooler, uninstalling the driver, running the trouble shooter, rebooting ...

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Chris.

Note: 28/11/2017 - I have had an email from Epson who confirm the problem is caused by a change introduced by Microsoft. As a result they have no fix for the problem and say that if I wish to continue using the latest version of Windows 10 then I need to buy a new printer or wait for Microsoft to introduce a change (which may never happen). This is hugely disappointing and is also not very environmentally friendly.

Based on your post on printing, I think that the Microsoft Virtual Agent can help you troubleshoot your issue. It'll walk you through the right troubleshooting steps based on the specific problem you're facing.

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

This is great that uninstalling KB560960 followed by the manual install of KB4567512 appears to be working for some folks. However I have just completed all that and I find I still have the same problem.

I also found that another update KB4559309 had also snuck in while I was in the process and have tried to uninstall that but it will not allow me to do that. It looks like I have 2 options at the moment:

    1. Wait for a July update and hope that takes care of it.
    2. Install the 2004 version and hope that takes care of it

As I want to get my printers back as soon as possible I am going to proceed with option 2 tomorrow unless anyone can come up with a good reason not to do that.

    This is so much fun!!!

I just tried 2004, and then reinstalled the drivers for an HL Laser 4040CN.  Still no joy for me - the update to 2004 was relatively painless though, and I normally update anyway so I don't regret it.

It was just uninstalling (and hiding) KB4560960 and KB4557957 that worked for me.

    Hi all

Sorry about the delay in updating. I upgraded to Feature update 2004. It broke printing again. I cannot roll back just the patch KB4560960), I am going to run the fix again to see if it overrides the issue.

Ok. So it may not have been the Feature Update that broke printing. I uninstalled "2020-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4557957)" and printing works again.

Also I found this https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-2004 which shows that KB4557957 breaks a few other things. As I have uninstalled it now, I'm going to block it and as a back up I'm going to pause updates until a few days after July's Patch Tuesday so as to allow time to research what might be fixed/broken.

I would like to thank Microsoft for all their help, but I can't as they didn't!!
