Print job goes into queue and instantly disappears with nothing being printed

For some reason my system has stopped working correctly with one of my printers. The system sees the printer as being connected and available and when I print the job goes to the print queue. However it then instantly disappears and nothing is printed. Can someone advise?

The printer with the problem is an Epson Stylus Photo 1290. The printer was working a couple of days ago and the only thing I can think that has happened is that there was an automatic windows update.

I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 15063.726

I have tried: starting and stopping the print spooler, uninstalling the driver, running the trouble shooter, rebooting ...

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Chris.

Note: 28/11/2017 - I have had an email from Epson who confirm the problem is caused by a change introduced by Microsoft. As a result they have no fix for the problem and say that if I wish to continue using the latest version of Windows 10 then I need to buy a new printer or wait for Microsoft to introduce a change (which may never happen). This is hugely disappointing and is also not very environmentally friendly.

Based on your post on printing, I think that the Microsoft Virtual Agent can help you troubleshoot your issue. It'll walk you through the right troubleshooting steps based on the specific problem you're facing.

Please let us know if this solved your issue.

Dont's chuck the computer it is not the computer's fault.  It is the Operating System, created by Microsoft, that is to blame.  They think because they have also a monopoly on the desktop OS that they can use us to test their ****.  We, and I mean a large group of users, really need to switch OSs and that may scare Microsoft into realizing they should spend a little of that money we give them in QAing their products, including their patches.

I've been battling this for 2 days. I've reset the printer multiple times, swapped cables, removed and reinstalled drivers and software, updated the PC to Win 10 2004. I tested the printer on a different PC and it worked so it had to be a Windows problem.

Finally I reset Windows - still no success.

I have used many different search strings and I only got here because I noticed the number of replies had gone from 46 yesterday to 47 today and realised there may be an update to a page opened in November 2017 that might help me. Too late for me as I had reset Windows, I can't roll back and will  have to wait for the patch to fix the patch.

Surely somebody in MS support could open a post that would get a high SEO rank and help us find these solutions before we, the people who pay for the big salaries and share options of MS staff, become so frustrated that we want to chuck the computer out the window.

This problem has now, not surprisingly, been reported extensively, for example at https://www.windowslatest.com/2020/06/13/microsoft-confirms-new-issue-in-windows-10-june-2020-updates/ which confirms that Microsoft are aware  and summarises the temporary solution. Google "KB4560960 printers" and you find thousands of hits. I'm now unsubscribing from this thread and just waiting for the bug-free update to be issued (if ever!)

Tx for all your help, I hope it'll be soon there!
