track numbers in front of song names in windows music library, windows 7

I have track numbers in front of some of my song names (not title) in my music libarary.  How do I get rid of them.  They are not in the "name" in WMP.  I try to right click and rename and that doesn't work.  I try going through properties into details and delete numbers in front of name, but it doesn't stay changed.  Tried to edit in WMP and that doesn't work.  Nothing I do permenantly changes the name (not title). 

Help!!!!!!

    One thing I found useful in Windows7 was having a separate user account for my audio (and a small amount of video) so there were no pictures on the account to clutter up WMP.

    This might be a way to tidy up the library by just copying over artist/album folders  - and you don't have to keep switching accounts - you can give yourself access to play the music from your main account.

    Glad SFC seems to have resolved some problems - it doesn't always get everything in one run so it may be worth doing it again... once it reports 'no violations found' - all good. - R.

    Thank you again for all your help.  I did find a tutorial of WMP but its pretty vague.  There is no way to contact either of you guys if I have another problem, eh?

    Congrats, Ric!  I dunno if I would have twigged to Separate User Accounts. That is just a tad too complicated for my geriatric mind. I am still stuck in One User = One Machine mode.

    Here is where I have a point of confusion: Windows Explorer has a 'Libraries' view. Windows Media has 'Libraries'. These are very different creatures, even if they share similar names. Just one of my many frustrations with the elves at Microsoft.

    <Stay with me..............If I move four of the folders out of the "music" catagory and put them under "documents", under "libraries" on my computer and leave just one folder under the "music" catagory, WMP only reflects the songs in that folder in its library.....thus no duplicates. >

    I am staying with you. <GRIN> No worries. Now it is your turn to try to stay with me. If you move four of the Folders out of the C:\Users\Username\Music Folder, and into the C:\Users\Username\Documents Folder, WMP only reflects (shows?) the songs in that (which?) Folder in its Library.

    Just askin'. Gimmee a hint and I will do everything I can to meet you more than halfway.
