I have track numbers in front of some of my song names (not title) in my music libarary.  How do I get rid of them.  They are not in the "name" in WMP.  I try to right click and rename and that doesn't work.  I try going through properties into details and delete numbers in front of name, but it doesn't stay changed.  Tried to edit in WMP and that doesn't work.  Nothing I do permenantly changes the name (not title).

Help!!!!!!

Thanks Ric. This has been a great thread. I learned a lot about WMP from your efforts.

Thank you! What finally pushed me into turning off WMP (this is W10 specific) was its album art... Because the art size has not been updated since XP days (200x200 px large and 75x75 small) and it will eventually always overwrite to those sizes, I finally decided to call it a day. The main issue is the folder image which invariably ends up with a white border around it because the folder template is now one-third bigger than the large artwork thus - and looks horrible!

Although I had 'fixed' most of the folder art by disabling system interference (in properties 'security') there would always be a few I'd missed getting hit after updates.

Apologies to Janet for momentarily going off-topic but it's kind of relevant to the point about WMP being behind the times. - Cheers, R.

Off topic? I will see you and raise... :D

I was only in this Forum to find a way to change the size of Album Art in WMP. Scary, huh?

Currently, WMP in both my Win 7 and Win 10 machines is set to display Album Art at full resolution, whatever that resolution is. I drew some Art at the resolution of the Win 10 laptop, 1376 by 768, and WMP displays it full size.

The good news: It is pretty easy. Bad news, it involves editing the Registry. This is the method I used. In Win 7, the 'PlayerModeAlbumArtSelected' was there. In Win 10, I had to write it.

I just went and looked and in Win 7, and it looks as though the Windoze Update reset the 'ShowAlbumArt' value to '0'. WMP Album Art is still displaying at full size as I write this.

I took a screenshot of the Registry and tried to upload it but MS is not cooperating. I will try again in a separate post.

Hi guys.  Thank you so so much for all your help Ric and Cyberguy654.  I agree that WMP is getting to be a dinasour and I think there will be a day when Windows 7 will not longer be supported either and I will then be forced to upgrade.  I'm lazy when it comes to sitting on my computer for hours to change everything............but...................it is what it is.  Back to my question to both you guys.  What software out there is better than WMP?  Yes, I too mostly stream my music ........from Amazon, but there is an occasion when one of my friends have a CD with some good music that I might want to rip........but not necessarily a requirement on the software.  I have read about so many of the softwares that I am going crazy.  Of course, everyone thinks theirs is the best.  Now that you know what I have gone through the last week or so, what would you recommend?  One that easy to use and easy to transfer music from flash back and forth and songs streamed from Amazon.

Thanks guys....................you are both fantastic.   If I have any more problems, how can I get back with you?  I can't use anyone else cause this has been such a snafu that no one else would get it and I can't explain it all to them.....omg!!!!

Please get back to me, ok?

The web site says to find or write 'PlayerModeAlbumArtSelected' in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/MediaPlayer/Preferences and set the Value to '0'. Then find 'ShowAlbumArt' and set the value to '1'.

Below is a screenshot of the current values in my Win 7 Registry:

Album Art is displaying at full resolution in 'WMP Now Playing' with the window expanded to full size. Shrink the window and the art is cropped, not shrunk.

    Hope that helps!
