track numbers in front of song names in windows music library, windows 7

Ric....................I totally understand we have been on this forum a long time, but not unjustified.  Now, my next problem is my play feature at the bottom of wmp is not working......at all.

Secondly, I think I will take your advice and just learn wmp player in depth.  I have liked it in the past.  The biggest problem is I cannot find a tutorial or manual on WMP so that I could play around and if I got stuck I wouldn't have to rely on these forums.  Do you know where I can get my hands on one???

Ouch - sorry to hear that... Just check again that only your **'My Music'**folder is showing in WMP - Organize - Manage Libraries - Music - and also that you do not have 'Amazon Music' in your My Music folder as well as copies of Amazon downloads (a common duplication error). If that is all correct there's one more check to run which is an SFC scan.

I agree with you that Windows 7 will no longer be supported someday. When that day comes, I will get a new machine with the latest and greatest Windows OS.  I will do what Ric did and 'mothball' the Win 7 machine. I have done a similar thing with a Vista laptop.

Streaming is the way of the future, but I have many old devices that like things the old way. That is why I still use WMP. I have VLC, and it has its uses, but I always come back to WMP for playing audio files. The important thing to understand is that WMP is a Player. It has some minimal editing abilities, but WMP is not meant to edit files.

I listen to podcasts, and many of them have several ads in various places. I use audio editing software to strip out the ads and that it makes faster and easier to listen to the podcast. WMP is my player of choice to play them back. It is easy to use Windows Explorer to select a week's worth of a particular podcast and drag the files in to WMP to play.

My recommendation would be to stick with WMP. Learn it. Learn to love it. Poke around and figure out what it does. Find out what it does well. Find out what it does not do well. Get your hands dirty. There is almost always more than one way to do something. Play around and find out what works best for you. It is like anything else. Practice will make you perfect.

I am thinking about what to do about you being able to get back in touch. We have already blown this format to shreds. <GRIN> This Forum was never meant for answers as long as the novels I have been writing. I am sure that the *real* geeks are a tad frustrated ... :-D

Ok..................I see what has happened.  If I have a song in more than one place in my computer library, WMP picks it up both places and puts it in their libaray.......which totally sucks!!!  I want to be able to list the music on my computer as I like in one file and list other music in other files.  That same song could be in both files.................of which I would want it to be.  So...................I guess Rick, I will have to follow your suggestion and place those other files in another area................ie:  documents.   This sucks!!!

AND............in addition to the above, now when i put my mouse over one of the songs it automatically starts playing the song.  Can't stop it from playing down at the bottom controls, I have to move my mouse off the song name.
